5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bobbie Garza-Hernandez has been inducted into the |

6 | 6 | | 2023 San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame; and |

7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1984, the San Marcos Women's Hall of |
---|
8 | 8 | | Fame has grown to include more than 140 local residents; criteria |
---|
9 | 9 | | for selection include performing volunteer work in multiple areas |
---|
10 | 10 | | of service, meeting the needs of the community, demonstrating |
---|
11 | 11 | | initiative, influencing positive change, and going above and beyond |
---|
12 | 12 | | the call of duty; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A recognized facilitator, trainer, consensus |
---|
14 | 14 | | builder, and problem solver, Ms. Garza-Hernandez has demonstrated |
---|
15 | 15 | | a longstanding commitment to empowering disenfranchised and |
---|
16 | 16 | | underserved communities; a founding member of the Council for the |
---|
17 | 17 | | Indigenous and Tejano Community, she has also served as a member of |
---|
18 | 18 | | the Indigenous Cultures Institute, the Mexican American Business |
---|
19 | 19 | | and Professional Women's Association, and the San Marcos |
---|
20 | 20 | | Neighborhood Commission, and as chair of the Hays County Women's |
---|
21 | 21 | | Political Caucus; she is a graduate of Leadership Austin and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Leadership Texas, and she has received numerous honors, including |
---|
23 | 23 | | the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican |
---|
24 | 24 | | American Cultural Center, the Cesar E. Chavez Award from People |
---|
25 | 25 | | Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources, and the Woman of |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Year Award from the League of United Latin American Citizens; |

28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Garza-Hernandez began her professional career |

29 | 29 | | in migrant education and youth employment programs, and she went on |
---|
30 | 30 | | to serve as chief of staff for former mayor Gus Garcia of the City of |

31 | 31 | | Austin; inspired by her experiences in that role, she launched her |
---|
32 | 32 | | own business, Pink Consulting, in 1997, and the public relations |
---|
33 | 33 | | company has since provided communication services for large-scale |
---|
34 | 34 | | public and private projects and become a leader in outreach to |
---|
35 | 35 | | disenfranchised and minority communities; Ms. Garza-Hernandez |
---|
36 | 36 | | holds a degree in communications and Hispanic relations from |
---|
37 | 37 | | St. Edward's University; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Bobbie Garza-Hernandez has set an inspiring example |
---|
39 | 39 | | of volunteerism and civic leadership, and the citizens of |
---|
40 | 40 | | San Marcos are fortunate indeed to count her among their fellow |
---|
41 | 41 | | residents; now, therefore, be it |

42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

43 | 43 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Bobbie |
