| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo is |

| 6 | 6 | | celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2024; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The organization traces its origins to 1934, when |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Chanslor E. Weymouth, Cal Farley, and Roy Pool established the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Maverick Boys Club at a building donated by Mary E. Bivins; from |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1934 through 1982, the facility was supervised by director Ralph |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Dykeman, and in 1983, it opened its doors to girls for the first |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | time; today the club serves more than 1,000 young people every year, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | equipping at-risk youth with the tools they need to reach their full |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | potential and to become engaged and productive members of society; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Since 1952, the club has operated from the Maverick |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | building on South Lincoln Street; working in partnership with the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | United Way of Amarillo & Canyon and other organizations, it |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | provides programs in the areas of character and leadership, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | education and career, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | fitness, and recreation; the club's offerings also include computer |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | science, peer support, scouting, and 4-H initiatives; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, the Maverick Boys & |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Girls Club of Amarillo has remained faithful to its mission of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | providing young Texans with a safe and nurturing environment in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | which to build healthy relationships, confidence, and self-esteem, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing the organization on this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | notable milestone; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 90th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | anniversary of the Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo and extend |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes |

| 33 | 33 | | for continued success with their important work; and, be it further |
