| 7 | 7 | | Independent School District in 2023 after having guided the Aledo |

| 8 | 8 | | Bearcats to a total of 11 state titles, setting the University |

| 9 | 9 | | Interscholastic League record for the most football championships; |

| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Tim Buchanan arrived at Aledo in 1993, and his |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | successful efforts to build a winning culture for the football |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | program transformed the Bearcats into a powerhouse; during the 25 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | years that he coached the team, Aledo won eight state |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | championships, and the Bearcats added three more titles during the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | five-year period when he stepped away from coaching to serve as |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | athletic director before returning to the sidelines in 2019; his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | final championship victory came on December 17, 2022, when Aledo |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | defeated College Station High School in the 5A Division 1 state |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | final; with the win, Coach Buchanan closed out his career with a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 281-58-3 ledger; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Coach Buchanan first joined the coaching ranks in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | 1984 as an assistant at Bastrop High School, and he later held |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | assistant positions at Killeen Ellison, The Colony, and A&M |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Consolidated High Schools, the latter of which claimed the 1991 4A |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | state title during his tenure; one of the most respected figures in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the game, he was inducted into the Texas High School Coaches |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Association Hall of Honor in July 2023; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Steve Wood joined the Aledo High faculty in 2002 as |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the football |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | team, working under the direction of Coach Buchanan; over the next |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | two decades, he played an instrumental role in the Bearcats' |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | phenomenal success; after helping the team win four state crowns |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | during his tenure as assistant head coach, he served as head coach |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | from 2014 through 2018, guiding his players to three state |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | championships in four title game appearances and racking up 75 wins |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | against only 4 losses; in 2019, he concluded his coaching |

| 38 | 38 | | responsibilities to become the district's athletic director, and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | during the next four years, he provided essential support to the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | team as it made three more state championship runs; and |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Earlier in his career, Mr. Wood distinguished |

| 42 | 42 | | himself as a teacher and as a football, basketball, track, and |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | powerlifting coach; beginning in 1981, he was employed at Calhoun |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | High School in Port Lavaca, and he went on to work at J. Frank Dobie |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | High School in Houston and at Boswell High School in Fort Worth; and |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | WHEREAS, Architects of a gridiron dynasty at Aledo High |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | School, Tim Buchanan and Steve Wood set a new standard for coaching |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | excellence in Texas high school football, and their achievements |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | will resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Tim Buchanan |

| 52 | 52 | | and Steve Wood for leading the Aledo High School football team to a |

| 53 | 53 | | UIL record 11 state championships and extend to them sincere best |
