3 | 3 | | greatly influenced by family farming and ranching, and Jana Beth |

4 | 4 | | Johnson and Mary Sue Klein of Clay County have been officially |

5 | 5 | | recognized as heirs to this proud tradition with the acceptance |

6 | 6 | | of the Gray Wynn Klein Ranch into the state's Family Land |
---|
7 | 7 | | Heritage Program in 2023; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture, |
---|
9 | 9 | | this program honors farms and ranches that have been in |
---|
10 | 10 | | continuous agricultural operation by the same family for a |
---|
11 | 11 | | century or more; established in 1873, the Gray Wynn Klein Ranch |
---|
12 | 12 | | is currently owned and operated by Ms. Johnson and Ms. Klein, the |
---|
13 | 13 | | great-great-grandchildren of the ranch's founders, Christian and |
---|
14 | 14 | | Lucy Sanzenbacher; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Christian and Lucy Sanzenbacher joined Johann |
---|
16 | 16 | | "Uncle John" Sanzenbacher in southern Clay County in 1873 and |
---|
17 | 17 | | subsequently began raising cattle; in 1921, the land and the herd |
---|
18 | 18 | | that the couple had accumulated were split among their seven |
---|
19 | 19 | | living children, including their daughter Ida and her husband, |
---|
20 | 20 | | Fred Wynn, who acquired the family's horned Hereford cattle; Ida |
---|
21 | 21 | | and Fred Wynn named their operation Wynn Ranch, and in the |
---|
22 | 22 | | decades since, five generations of the family have worked |
---|
23 | 23 | | together to maintain the land; Ms. Johnson and Ms. Klein assumed |
---|
24 | 24 | | ownership in 2013 following the passing of their mother, Cheryl |
---|
25 | 25 | | Klein, and today, they continue to oversee the ranch's cattle and |
---|
26 | 26 | | hay operation; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In preserving their property as a working ranch, |
---|
28 | 28 | | Jana Beth Johnson and Mary Sue Klein are making their own |
---|
29 | 29 | | contribution to their family's legacy, and it is indeed fitting |

30 | 30 | | that they be honored for their outstanding stewardship; now, |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
