11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12
22 WHEREAS, The prosperity of the Lone Star State has been
33 greatly influenced by family farming and ranching, and Jana Beth
44 Johnson and Mary Sue Klein of Clay County have been officially
55 recognized as heirs to this proud tradition with the acceptance
66 of the Gray Wynn Klein Ranch into the state's Family Land
77 Heritage Program in 2023; and
88 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture,
99 this program honors farms and ranches that have been in
1010 continuous agricultural operation by the same family for a
1111 century or more; established in 1873, the Gray Wynn Klein Ranch
1212 is currently owned and operated by Ms. Johnson and Ms. Klein, the
1313 great-great-grandchildren of the ranch's founders, Christian and
1414 Lucy Sanzenbacher; and
1515 WHEREAS, Christian and Lucy Sanzenbacher joined Johann
1616 "Uncle John" Sanzenbacher in southern Clay County in 1873 and
1717 subsequently began raising cattle; in 1921, the land and the herd
1818 that the couple had accumulated were split among their seven
1919 living children, including their daughter Ida and her husband,
2020 Fred Wynn, who acquired the family's horned Hereford cattle; Ida
2121 and Fred Wynn named their operation Wynn Ranch, and in the
2222 decades since, five generations of the family have worked
2323 together to maintain the land; Ms. Johnson and Ms. Klein assumed
2424 ownership in 2013 following the passing of their mother, Cheryl
2525 Klein, and today, they continue to oversee the ranch's cattle and
2626 hay operation; and
2727 WHEREAS, In preserving their property as a working ranch,
2828 Jana Beth Johnson and Mary Sue Klein are making their own
2929 contribution to their family's legacy, and it is indeed fitting
3030 that they be honored for their outstanding stewardship; now,
3131 therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3333 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Jana Beth
3434 Johnson and Mary Sue Klein on the induction of the Gray Wynn Klein
3535 Ranch into the Texas Department of Agriculture Family Land
3636 Heritage Program and extend to them sincere best wishes for the
3737 future; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3939 prepared for Ms. Johnson and Ms. Klein as an expression of high
4040 regard from the Texas Senate.
