5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
26 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
37 recognize Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Houston on the
48 grand occasion of its 100th anniversary, which will be celebrated
59 on October 22, 2023; and
6- WHEREAS, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church was established
7- in 1923 by Rev. Eltee Williams and three founding members of the
8- congregation; in 1930, Pastor M. C. Williams became the spiritual
9- leader of the church, and his teachings and enthusiasm attracted
10- additional members to the small, barnlike structure to hear his
11- words of ministry; and
10+ WHEREAS, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church was
11+ established in 1923 by Rev. Eltee Williams and three founding
12+ members of the congregation; in 1930, Pastor M. C. Williams
13+ became the spiritual leader of the church, and his teachings and
14+ enthusiasm attracted additional members to the small, barnlike
15+ structure to hear his words of ministry; and
1216 WHEREAS, The growing ecclesia relocated to a new facility
1317 in 1941 and began constructing a two-story educational building
1418 with classrooms, a kitchen and dining area, and a Sunday school
1519 assembly hall; after the death of Pastor M. C. Williams in 1958,
1620 his son, Floyd Nathaniel Williams, was selected by the
1721 congregation to serve as pastor, and one year later, the church
1822 moved to its newly erected place of worship; and
1923 WHEREAS, Under the outstanding leadership of
2024 Rev. F. N. Williams, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church
2125 witnessed exponential growth with the development of new
2226 departments, programs, and auxiliary positions as well as
2327 numerous outreach ministries to serve the community across all
2428 areas of need; and
2529 WHEREAS, When the church's roof collapsed in 1971, Pastor
26- Williams encouraged his congregation to take heart and rebuild, and
27- in 1975, they established their newest church facility where the
28- congregation continuestogatherinworshipandfellowship; and

33- families throughout the past century, and it is truly fitting
34- that the church receive special recognition on reaching this
35- remarkable milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it
35+ members and the dedication and leadership of the church's
36+ clergy and its current pastor Rev. F. N. Williams, the church
37+ has had an extraordinary impact on the lives of countless
38+ individuals and families throughout the past century, and it
39+ is truly fitting that the church receive special recognition
40+ on reaching this remarkable milestone in its history; now,
41+ therefore, be it
3642 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3743 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the leaders and
3844 members of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on their
3945 contributions to the Acres Homes community and extend to all best
4046 wishes for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration and for
4147 continued success in their ministry; and, be it further
4248 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
4349 honor of this special occasion.
