26 WHEREAS, The prosperity of the Lone Star State has been
37 greatly influenced by family farming and ranching, and the
4- Sanzenbacher Ranch in Clay County has been recognized for its
5- role in this proud tradition with its acceptance into the state's
6- Family Land Heritage Program in 2023, during its 150th
7- anniversary year; and
8- WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of
9- Agriculture, this program honors farms and ranches that have
10- been in continuous agricultural operation by the same family
11- for a century or more; established in 1873, the Sanzenbacher
12- Ranch is currently owned and operated by J. H. "Sonny" Baldwin,
13- Forrest Baldwin, Ryan Baldwin, Harrison Baldwin, and Jacquelyn
14- Sewell; and
8+ Sanzenbacher Ranch in Clay County has been recognized for its role
9+ in this proud tradition with its acceptance into the state's Family

12+ WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture,
13+ this program honors farms and ranches that have been in continuous

15+ established in 1873, the Sanzenbacher Ranch is currently owned and
16+ operated by J. H. "Sonny" Baldwin, Forrest Baldwin, Ryan Baldwin,
17+ Harrison Baldwin, and Jacquelyn Sewell; and
1518 WHEREAS, Johann "Uncle John" Sanzenbacher emigrated to the
1619 United States from Germany in 1847, and in 1873, he founded
1720 Sanzenbacher Ranch alongside his nephew, Christian, and
18- Christian's wife, Lucy; Uncle John passed away in 1879, and
19- Lucy's brother, Henry Carle, joined the endeavor in 1886; he and
20- the couple's youngest son, Henry Chris, assumed operations when
21- Christian fell ill, and following the deaths of Christian and
22- Lucy, the ranch was divided among their heirs in 1926; Henry
23- Chris kept the original parcel of land and the house, which is
24- still in use today; and
25- WHEREAS, Henry Carle and his wife, Elsie Borgman,
26- maintained the landholdings and herd with their son, Carle
27- Roselle, and his wife, Anna Lee, until 1978, when ownership and
28- management fell to Elsie and to Anna Lee's nephew, Sonny Baldwin;
29- after Elsie's passing in 1995, Sonny inherited the ranch, and he
30- went on to introduce new breedlines that improved the quality and
31- size of calves; his son Forrest Baldwin currently manages the
32- ranch's daily operations and oversees its production of cattle,
33- horses, and hay; and
21+ Christian's wife, Lucy; Uncle John passed away in 1879, and Lucy's

38- for their outstanding stewardship; now, therefore, be it
39- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
40- Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate J. H.
41- "Sonny" Baldwin, Forrest Baldwin, Ryan Baldwin, Harrison
42- Baldwin, and Jacquelyn Sewell on the induction of the
43- Sanzenbacher Ranch into the Texas Department of Agriculture
44- Family Land Heritage Program and extend to them sincere best
45- wishes for the future; and, be it further
37+ Sonny Baldwin, Forrest Baldwin, Ryan Baldwin, Harrison Baldwin, and
38+ Jacquelyn Sewell are making their own contribution to their
39+ family's legacy, and it is indeed fitting that they be honored for
