5	5	WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Corbett Kennard Stephens of
6	6	Tyler on June 13, 2023, at the age of 48, brought an immeasurable
7	7	loss to his family and friends; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Tyler on September 11, 1974, Cory Stephens
9	9	was the son of Penny Stephens and Dr. Marvin Stephens, an
10	10	orthodontist; he grew up with the company of two siblings, Trey
11	11	and Brooke; as a boy, he dreamed of following in his father's
12	12	footsteps, and he began helping to clean his office during
13	13	summers in order to observe his work; he graduated with honors
14	14	from The University of Texas at Austin and completed the
15	15	orthodontic program at Baylor College of Dentistry in 2003; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Dr. Stephens began practicing with his father,
17	17	and Stephens and Stephens Orthodontics thrived in both Tyler and
18	18	Lindale; "Dr. Cory" loved caring for his patients, and he served
19	19	his profession in a number of capacities, including as president
20	20	of the Smith County Dental Society, as a diplomate of the
21	21	American Board of Orthodontics, and as an active member of the
22	22	Baylor College of Dentistry Orthodontic Alumni Association; in
23	23	addition, he was a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National
24	24	Dental Honor Society, the American Association of Orthodontists,
25	25	the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, and the Charles H.
26	26	Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research and
27	27	Education; he received the Scholastic Achievement Award from the
28	28	Psi Omega Dental Fraternity; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Dr. Stephens served
30	30	as president of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-North Texas
31	31	Chapter, and he was a member of the Tyler Rose Festival's Order of
32	32	the Rose; he was a man of faith, having grown up attending Marvin
33	33	Methodist Church; he loved spending time with his family,
34	34	especially at the lake house, where he taught many people how to
35	35	water ski, or hunting at the ranch; his yellow lab, "Miss Bree,"
36	36	was his constant companion; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Although Cory Stephens is deeply missed, he has
38	38	left his family and friends with many cherished memories, and he
39	39	will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now,
40	40	therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
42	42	Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life
43	43	of Dr. Corbett Kennard Stephens and extend sincere sympathy to
44	44	the members of his family: to his mother, Penny Kennard Stephens;
45	45	to his sister, Brooke Marie Stephens; to his niece, Marlee Blythe
46	46	Stephens; to his aunt and uncle, Dr. Jerry Lehmann and Janie
47	47	Lehmann; to his cousin, Dr. Melissa Leigh Lehmann; and to all who
48	48	mourn his passing; and, be it further
49	49	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
50	50	prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
51	51	this day, it do so in memory of Cory Stephens.
