6 | 6 | | Gid Terry Jr. of Longview passed away on June 10, 2023, at the age |

7 | 7 | | of 89, bringing a great loss to his family and friends; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Bessie Irene Turner and Andrew Gid |
---|
9 | 9 | | Terry Sr., Gid Terry was born in Greenville, Mississippi, on |
---|
10 | 10 | | February 5, 1934; he worked his way through Mississippi State |
---|
11 | 11 | | University, where he was a student leader and member of the Air |
---|
12 | 12 | | Force ROTC; after completing his bachelor's degree in business, |
---|
13 | 13 | | he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the USAF and began |
---|
14 | 14 | | pilot training; he married the former Elizabeth Ann Noble in |
---|
15 | 15 | | December 1955 and they became the parents of two daughters, |
---|
16 | 16 | | Debbie and Lisa, as well as a son, Gid, who tragically lived for |
---|
17 | 17 | | only one day; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Terry's career spanned three decades and |
---|
19 | 19 | | took him and his family to seven different states and two foreign |
---|
20 | 20 | | countries; he served in all three of the air force's command |
---|
21 | 21 | | divisions at the time, and during the Vietnam War, he flew |
---|
22 | 22 | | missions in the Military Airlift Command, carrying supplies and |
---|
23 | 23 | | sometimes transporting combat troops or airlifting the wounded; |
---|
24 | 24 | | later assigned to the Strategic Air Command, he was named deputy |
---|
25 | 25 | | commander of maintenance at Beale Air Force Base near Sacramento, |
---|
26 | 26 | | California; he took great pride in the achievements of the |
---|
27 | 27 | | maintenance squadrons as well as the pilots of that |
---|
28 | 28 | | Reconnaissance Wing and earned their admiration and affection; |
---|
29 | 29 | | moreover, he became one of the elite few to fly the SR-71; |
---|
30 | 30 | | following his retirement in 1985, he and his wife settled in |
---|
31 | 31 | | Marshall; they were very active in their church and community and |
---|
32 | 32 | | formed many wonderful friendships through the Marshall Lions |
---|
33 | 33 | | Club; Mrs. Terry preceded her husband in death; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Although Gid Terry is greatly missed by those he |
---|
35 | 35 | | has left behind, they will continue to find inspiration in his |
---|
36 | 36 | | warmth, kindness, and dedication; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life |
---|
39 | 39 | | of U.S. Air Force Colonel (Ret.) Andrew Gid Terry Jr. and extend |
---|
40 | 40 | | sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his daughters, |

41 | 41 | | Debbie Hembree and Lisa Constantine and her husband, Gene; to his |
---|
42 | 42 | | grandchildren, Lance Spott, Courtney Rogers, and Micah, Leah, |

43 | 43 | | and Hannah Constantine; to his great-grandchildren, Sydney and |

44 | 44 | | Connor Spott and Samantha Rogers; and to his other relatives and |

45 | 45 | | friends; and, be it further |
