55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their
66 memories of Bill Sullivan Jr. of Marshall, who passed away on
77 June 11, 2023, at the age of 94; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Bill Sullivan Sr. and Bess Crouch
99 Sullivan, Bill Sullivan was born on September 19, 1928, in
1010 Marshall; he graduated with the Marshall High School Class of
1111 1946 and continued his education at East Texas Baptist
1212 University, the University of North Texas, and the Dallas
1313 Institute of Funeral Service; after serving his country during
1414 the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army, he embarked on a
1515 successful career as a funeral director; he held leadership roles
1616 with Sullivan Funeral Home as well as a number of other
1717 businesses, including Sullivan Life Insurance Company, Sullivan
1818 Monument Company, Colonial Gardens Cemetery, and Algoma
1919 Cemetery; moreover, he was active in various professional
2020 associations; and
2121 WHEREAS, An engaged member of his community, Mr. Sullivan
2222 served as president of the Rotary Club of Marshall and the Fern
2323 Lake Hunting and Fishing Club and as a director of the Greater
2424 Marshall Chamber of Commerce, the Harrison County Chapter of the
2525 American Red Cross, and the Harrison County Historical Society;
2626 he was also involved in the American Legion and several masonic
2727 organizations; sustained by an abiding faith, he served as a
2828 vestryman at Trinity Episcopal Church and as a deacon at First
2929 Baptist Church of Marshall; and
3030 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sullivan enjoyed the
3131 love and support of his wife, the former Carolyn Latham, with
3232 whom he shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 71 years before
3333 her passing; he took great pride in their two daughters, Sherry
3434 and Cindy, and he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to
3535 include four grandchildren, Clay, Stephen, John, and the late
3636 Dr. Lauren Gilstrap, as well as five great-grandchildren; and
3737 WHEREAS, Bill Sullivan lived a life that was rich in personal
3838 and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of
3939 inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4141 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4242 of Bill Sullivan Jr. and extend sincere condolences to all who
4343 mourn his passing; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4545 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4646 this day, it do so in memory of Bill Sullivan.
