5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their |

6 | 6 | | memories of Bill Sullivan Jr. of Marshall, who passed away on |
---|
7 | 7 | | June 11, 2023, at the age of 94; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Bill Sullivan Sr. and Bess Crouch |
---|
9 | 9 | | Sullivan, Bill Sullivan was born on September 19, 1928, in |
---|
10 | 10 | | Marshall; he graduated with the Marshall High School Class of |
---|
11 | 11 | | 1946 and continued his education at East Texas Baptist |
---|
12 | 12 | | University, the University of North Texas, and the Dallas |
---|
13 | 13 | | Institute of Funeral Service; after serving his country during |
---|
14 | 14 | | the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army, he embarked on a |
---|
15 | 15 | | successful career as a funeral director; he held leadership roles |
---|
16 | 16 | | with Sullivan Funeral Home as well as a number of other |
---|
17 | 17 | | businesses, including Sullivan Life Insurance Company, Sullivan |
---|
18 | 18 | | Monument Company, Colonial Gardens Cemetery, and Algoma |
---|
19 | 19 | | Cemetery; moreover, he was active in various professional |
---|
20 | 20 | | associations; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, An engaged member of his community, Mr. Sullivan |
---|
22 | 22 | | served as president of the Rotary Club of Marshall and the Fern |
---|
23 | 23 | | Lake Hunting and Fishing Club and as a director of the Greater |
---|
24 | 24 | | Marshall Chamber of Commerce, the Harrison County Chapter of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | American Red Cross, and the Harrison County Historical Society; |
---|
26 | 26 | | he was also involved in the American Legion and several masonic |
---|
27 | 27 | | organizations; sustained by an abiding faith, he served as a |
---|
28 | 28 | | vestryman at Trinity Episcopal Church and as a deacon at First |
---|
29 | 29 | | Baptist Church of Marshall; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sullivan enjoyed the |
---|
31 | 31 | | love and support of his wife, the former Carolyn Latham, with |
---|
32 | 32 | | whom he shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 71 years before |
---|
33 | 33 | | her passing; he took great pride in their two daughters, Sherry |
---|
34 | 34 | | and Cindy, and he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to |
---|
35 | 35 | | include four grandchildren, Clay, Stephen, John, and the late |
---|
36 | 36 | | Dr. Lauren Gilstrap, as well as five great-grandchildren; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Bill Sullivan lived a life that was rich in personal |
---|
38 | 38 | | and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of |
---|
39 | 39 | | inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
41 | 41 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
42 | 42 | | of Bill Sullivan Jr. and extend sincere condolences to all who |
---|
43 | 43 | | mourn his passing; and, be it further |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
---|
45 | 45 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
---|
46 | 46 | | this day, it do so in memory of Bill Sullivan. |
