2- WHEREAS, DeWese's Tip Top Cafe in San Antonio is marking
3- the 85th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
4- WHEREAS, This beloved local establishment was first
5- opened as Tip Top Sandwich Shop by Winnie and J. A. "Pappy"
6- DeWese in 1938; by the 1950s, the eatery had changed its name
7- to Tip Top Cafe, and it was serving everything from fried
8- chicken and steak to sandwiches and Mexican food; Mr. and
9- Mrs. DeWese's son, Ancel DeWese, eventually took over the
10- restaurant, and it was passed on to the couple's granddaughter,
11- Linda DeWese, in 1981; she retired in 2016, selling the
12- business to Jim Scott and Gerardo Mancera; and

6+ WHEREAS, DeWese's Tip Top Cafe in San Antonio is marking the

8+ WHEREAS, This beloved local establishment was first opened as

19- has received numerous awards for some of its most popular menu
20- items, including its onion rings and chicken-fried steak; and
21- WHEREAS, Local businesses of long standing play a vital
22- role in the culture and economy of the Lone Star State, and it is
23- indeed a pleasure to honor DeWese's Tip Top Cafe for the high
24- regard it has enjoyed in the San Antonio community over the past
25- eight and a half decades; now, therefore, be it
26- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
27- Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 85th
28- anniversary of DeWese's Tip Top Cafe in San Antonio and extend to
29- all those associated with the restaurant sincere best wishes for
30- continued success; and, be it further
