| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The prosperity of the Lone Star State has been |

| 3 | 3 | | greatly influenced by family farming and ranching, and the Kraus |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | family of Gillespie County have been officially recognized as |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | heirs to this proud tradition with the acceptance of the Kraus |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Farm into the state's Family Land Heritage Program in 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | this program honors farms and ranches that have been in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | continuous agricultural operation by the same family for a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | century or more; the Kraus Farm is currently owned and operated |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | by Jerome and Genevieve Kraus; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1855, Christian Kraus emigrated from Germany |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | to Fredericksburg, and he married Anna Maria Hofacker shortly |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | thereafter; he established Kraus Farm in 1873, and the family |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | resided on the property while raising cattle, goats, sheep, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | chickens and cultivating wheat and hay; his two sons, John and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Michael, eventually took over the farm's operation, and in the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 1930s, it was passed down to Michael's children and their |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | families; the farm was transferred to Jerome Kraus in the 1980s, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and today, it continues to produce hay and cattle; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In preserving their property as a working farm, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the Krauses are making their own contribution to their family's |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | legacy, and it is indeed fitting that they be honored for their |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | outstanding stewardship; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Kraus |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | family on the induction of the Kraus Farm into the Texas Department |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of Agriculture Family Land Heritage Program and extend to them |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

| 31 | 31 | | prepared for the Kraus family as an expression of high regard |
