| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The prosperity of the Lone Star State has been |

| 3 | 3 | | greatly influenced by family farming and ranching, and Helen |

| 4 | 4 | | Bourquin Hawes and Dwain C. Hawes of Medina County have been |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | officially recognized as heirs to this proud tradition with the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | acceptance of the DCH Ranch into the state's Family Land Heritage |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Program in 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | this program honors farms and ranches that have been in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | continuous agricultural operation by the same family for a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | century or more; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A native of Castroville, Albert Bourquin |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | purchased 200 acres of land in 1878, and he acquired an |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | additional 320 acres two years later; he and his family made |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | their home on the ranch, where they initially raised cattle, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | hogs, and chickens as well as corn and maize; over the years, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | property was passed down to his children and their descendants, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and today, DCH Ranch is owned and operated by Mr. Bourquin's |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | great-granddaughter, Helen Bourquin Hawes, and her husband, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Dwain; located just 12 miles northeast of Castroville, the ranch |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | currently produces cattle, coastal hay, and Sudan grazer; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In preserving their property as a working ranch, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Helen Bourquin Hawes and Dwain Hawes are making their own |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | contribution to their family's legacy, and it is indeed fitting |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | that they be honored for their outstanding stewardship; now, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Helen |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Bourquin Hawes and Dwain C. Hawes on the induction of the DCH |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Ranch into the Texas Department of Agriculture Family Land |

| 31 | 31 | | Heritage Program and extend to them sincere best wishes for the |
