| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The prosperity of the Lone Star State has been |

| 3 | 3 | | greatly influenced by family farming and ranching, and the Grote |

| 4 | 4 | | family of Llano County have been officially recognized as heirs |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | to this proud tradition with the acceptance of the Holistic and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Historical 1882 Grote Ranch into the state's Family Land Heritage |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Program in 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | this program honors farms and ranches that have been in continuous |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | agricultural operation by the same family for a century or more; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the Grote Ranch is currently owned and operated by Janice Annette |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Jensen, great-granddaughter of its founders; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Grote Ranch was established in 1882 by C. H. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and Mina Grote, who raised Hereford cattle on the 2,000-acre |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | property; Mr. and Mrs. Grote became the parents of 11 children, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | several of whom continued working the land after the couple's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | passing in 1948; their son Raymond Grote inherited 425 acres of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the ranch, and following his death, his wife, Annette Dupree |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Grote, raised Angus cattle on the property; upon her passing, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | their daughter Annette Helen Altgelt Grote took over her parents' |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | share of the land, and in 2012, Mrs. Grote's daughter and current |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | owner Janice Annette Jensen inherited 30 acres; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In preserving their property as a working ranch, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the Grotes are making their own contribution to their family's |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | legacy, and it is indeed fitting that they be honored for their |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | outstanding stewardship; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Grote |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | family on the induction of the Holistic and Historical 1882 Grote |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Ranch into the Texas Department of Agriculture Family Land |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Heritage Program and extend to them sincere best wishes for the |
