6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 95th birthday of an esteemed member of the |

7 | 7 | | Greatest Generation is indeed cause for celebration, and Donald |

8 | 8 | | Gene Davidson of Brenham is marking this milestone in his life on |
---|
9 | 9 | | December 7, 2023; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The son of Mary Pauline and William Davidson, Don |
---|
11 | 11 | | Davidson was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1928; he served as |
---|
12 | 12 | | a paratrooper in the U.S. Army's 11th Airborne Division at the end |
---|
13 | 13 | | of World War II, taking part in the occupation of Japan; after |
---|
14 | 14 | | receiving his honorable discharge, he earned his bachelor's degree |
---|
15 | 15 | | in industrial management at Oklahoma State University; he wed the |
---|
16 | 16 | | former Patricia "Patsy" Sue Paschall on June 1, 1950, and they |
---|
17 | 17 | | became the proud parents of a son, Greg; through the years, their |
---|
18 | 18 | | treasured family grew to include a daughter-in-law, Donna Garcia |
---|
19 | 19 | | Davidson, and a granddaughter, Mary Grace Davidson; Mr. and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Mrs. Davidson shared a fulfilling 64-year relationship until her |
---|
21 | 21 | | passing in 2015; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Davidson began his career with Standard Oil of |
---|
23 | 23 | | Indiana, and in the late 1950s, he was involved in opening up new |
---|
24 | 24 | | oil fields in the U.S. and the Persian Gulf; switching to the |
---|
25 | 25 | | aerospace industry in the 1960s, he worked on the Polaris, Ranger, |
---|
26 | 26 | | and Minuteman programs for Hercules Powder Company in Salt Lake |
---|
27 | 27 | | City and on the design and testing phase of Apollo Lunar Excursion |
---|
28 | 28 | | Module components for Brown Engineering Company; later, he returned |
---|
29 | 29 | | to the energy sector and helped to establish a communication |
---|
30 | 30 | | platform along the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline; he retired from Atlantic |
---|
31 | 31 | | Richfield Company in 1986 to focus on raising Longhorn cattle at |
---|
32 | 32 | | Grand Ranch; in addition, he had two other family businesses, Mail |
---|
33 | 33 | | Courier Express and Pee Dee Patterns, where he was both owner and |
---|
34 | 34 | | artist; he also starred in Walking Away, an award-winning |
---|
35 | 35 | | independent movie; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, A prolific author, Mr. Davidson wrote a novel about |
---|
37 | 37 | | the Greatest Generation, as well as a 670-page history of the |
---|
38 | 38 | | Davidson family, tracing it from 14th Century Scotland to modern |
---|
39 | 39 | | America; he has been an active blogger for 15 years, recording his |
---|
40 | 40 | | insights in "The View from Grand Ranch: The Ramblings and |
---|
41 | 41 | | Ruminations of an Octogenarian"; very active in the Republican |
---|
42 | 42 | | Party, he has served as an election judge and precinct worker; he |
---|
43 | 43 | | maintained his vigorous fitness regimen well into his 90s; and |
---|
44 | 44 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to |
---|
45 | 45 | | know him, Don Davidson may reflect with great satisfaction on a |
---|
46 | 46 | | lifetime of achievement, and it is a pleasure to join his friends |
---|
47 | 47 | | and loved ones in honoring him on this memorable occasion; now, |
---|
48 | 48 | | therefore, be it |

49 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd |

50 | 50 | | Called Session, hereby congratulate Donald Gene Davidson on his |

51 | 51 | | 95th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
