56 WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed state legislator has drawn
67 to a close with the passing of the Honorable Mary Craver Denny on
78 September 14, 2023, at the age of 75; and
89 WHEREAS, The former Mary Craver was born to Lois and Kenneth
910 Craver on July 9, 1948, and she was raised in Houston, where she was
1011 a member of the Lamar High School Class of 1966; after attending The
1112 University of Texas at Austin, she transferred to the University of
1213 North Texas, graduating magna cum laude with degrees in elementary
1314 education and mathematics; and
14- WHEREAS, Following her move to Denton, Ms. Denny was
15- invited to serve as the Republican precinct chair for her area,
16- and she chaired the Denton County Republican Party from 1983
17- until 1991; the next year, she was elected to the Texas House of
18- Representatives for District 63, and she went on to serve her
19- constituents for seven terms, from 1993 to 2007; during her
20- tenure, she was treasurer of the House Republican Legislative
21- Caucus, and she sat on numerous committees, including those on
22- elections, criminal jurisprudence, financial institutions,
23- agriculture and wildlife management, and health and human
24- services block grants; she further distinguished herself as a
25- board member for the Texas Conservative Coalition and the Lone
26- Star Leadership Foundation; and
15+ WHEREAS, Following her move to Denton, Ms. Denny was invited
16+ to serve as the Republican precinct chair for her area, and she
17+ chaired the Denton County Republican Party from 1983 until 1991;
18+ the next year, she was elected to the Texas House of Representatives
19+ for District 63, and she went on to serve her constituents for seven
20+ terms, from 1993 to 2007; during her tenure, she was treasurer of

2929 Common Cause Star of Service Award, and three Texas Eagle Forum
3030 Freedom and Family Awards for her conservative voting record on
3131 social and economic issues; she was also a four-time recipient of
32- both the Texas Ten Award and the Leader of Excellence Award from
33- the Free Enterprise PAC; civically engaged, she was appointed to
34- the University of North Texas Board of Regents, and she served on
35- the UNT President's Council and the UNT Foundation Board; she was

41- and the Gaylord-Hughes Foundation; and

4242 WHEREAS, Ms. Denny cherished time spent with her family,
4343 which included her son, Bryan Denny, and his fiancée, Kelly
44- McCarty, her stepdaughter, Wenter Anderson, and her
45- grandchildren, McKenna and Christian Blair; her life was further
46- enriched by her wide circle of friends and by the companionship
47- of her two beloved dogs, Bishop and Gidget; and

5151 long be treasured by those who were fortunate enough to know her;

53- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
54- Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life
55- of Mary Craver Denny and extend deepest condolences to all who
56- mourn her passing; and, be it further
