55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
77 of Barbara Jean York Hancock, who passed away on October 20, 2023,
88 at the age of 88; and
99 WHEREAS, The only child of Eugene and Elfin "Dolly" York, the
1010 former Barbara York was born on July 15, 1935, and she grew up in
1111 Henderson, where she met the love of her life and future husband,
1212 Dean Hancock; they both attended Kilgore Junior College, and she
1313 became a member of the Rangerettes; and
1414 WHEREAS, The couple married in 1955 and went on to settle in
1515 Fort Worth; in addition to supporting the family business,
1616 Mrs. Hancock was a devoted mother to her three children, Cary,
1717 Kelly, and Pattilinn, and with the passing years, her cherished
1818 family grew to include eight grandchildren and nine
1919 great-grandchildren; and
2020 WHEREAS, Sustained by a deep faith, Mrs. Hancock was an
2121 active member of her church and served in the youth ministry and
2222 adult choir; moreover, she and her husband were heavily involved
2323 with Charles Stanley's In Touch Ministries and often participated
2424 in the cruises, ran the bookstore, and served as advisors to the
2525 Stanley family; engaged in her community, Mrs. Hancock also gave
2626 generously of her time and talents to a number of worthy causes and
2727 cultivated many lasting friendships though her work with the
2828 Woman's Club of Fort Worth; in her leisure time, she enjoyed travel
2929 and such adventurous pursuits as hiking, snow skiing, and
3030 motorcycle riding in New Mexico; in addition, she was an excellent
3131 decorator and a gracious hostess, and she and her husband held many
3232 gatherings in their home and at their Decatur ranch; and
3333 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Barbara Hancock
3434 will remember the way she touched their lives with her warmth, her
3535 kindness, and her cheerful personality, and she will forever hold a
3636 treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd
3838 Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Jean
3939 York Hancock and extend sincere condolences to the members of her
4040 family: to her husband, Lester Dean Hancock; to her children, Cary
4141 Hancock, Kelly Hancock and his wife, Robin, and Patti Priest and her
4242 husband, Cory; to her grandchildren, Layne Hancock, Chloe Hancock
4343 Cox, Skylar Hancock Frederick, Laramie Priest, C. J. Hancock
4444 Thornton, Harrison Hancock, Dakota Priest, and Steelie Priest
4545 Allison; to her great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and
4646 many friends; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
4949 day, it do so in memory of Barbara Hancock.
