6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |
---|
7 | 7 | | of Barbara Jean York Hancock, who passed away on October 20, 2023, |
---|
8 | 8 | | at the age of 88; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The only child of Eugene and Elfin "Dolly" York, the |
---|
10 | 10 | | former Barbara York was born on July 15, 1935, and she grew up in |
---|
11 | 11 | | Henderson, where she met the love of her life and future husband, |
---|
12 | 12 | | Dean Hancock; they both attended Kilgore Junior College, and she |
---|
13 | 13 | | became a member of the Rangerettes; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The couple married in 1955 and went on to settle in |
---|
15 | 15 | | Fort Worth; in addition to supporting the family business, |
---|
16 | 16 | | Mrs. Hancock was a devoted mother to her three children, Cary, |
---|
17 | 17 | | Kelly, and Pattilinn, and with the passing years, her cherished |
---|
18 | 18 | | family grew to include eight grandchildren and nine |
---|
19 | 19 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Sustained by a deep faith, Mrs. Hancock was an |
---|
21 | 21 | | active member of her church and served in the youth ministry and |
---|
22 | 22 | | adult choir; moreover, she and her husband were heavily involved |
---|
23 | 23 | | with Charles Stanley's In Touch Ministries and often participated |
---|
24 | 24 | | in the cruises, ran the bookstore, and served as advisors to the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Stanley family; engaged in her community, Mrs. Hancock also gave |
---|
26 | 26 | | generously of her time and talents to a number of worthy causes and |
---|
27 | 27 | | cultivated many lasting friendships though her work with the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Woman's Club of Fort Worth; in her leisure time, she enjoyed travel |
---|
29 | 29 | | and such adventurous pursuits as hiking, snow skiing, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | motorcycle riding in New Mexico; in addition, she was an excellent |
---|
31 | 31 | | decorator and a gracious hostess, and she and her husband held many |
---|
32 | 32 | | gatherings in their home and at their Decatur ranch; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Barbara Hancock |
---|
34 | 34 | | will remember the way she touched their lives with her warmth, her |
---|
35 | 35 | | kindness, and her cheerful personality, and she will forever hold a |
---|
36 | 36 | | treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd |

38 | 38 | | Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Jean |

39 | 39 | | York Hancock and extend sincere condolences to the members of her |

40 | 40 | | family: to her husband, Lester Dean Hancock; to her children, Cary |

41 | 41 | | Hancock, Kelly Hancock and his wife, Robin, and Patti Priest and her |

42 | 42 | | husband, Cory; to her grandchildren, Layne Hancock, Chloe Hancock |
