6+ WHEREAS, Washington Irving Dual Language Academy, a charter
7+ school in the San Antonio Independent School District, is
48 celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
59 WHEREAS, Irving Academy was founded in 1923 and named after
610 Washington Irving, a 19th century American author; it was
7- established as one of San Antonio ISD's original eight junior
8- high schools, and classes were initially held at Crockett
9- Elementary before the Irving Junior High School building
10- officially opened in January 1924; and
11+ established as one of San Antonio ISD's original eight junior high

1115 WHEREAS, In 1973, Irving Academy moved to its present
12- location on Delgado Street; a new band and mariachi hall was
13- added in 2003 as part of a facilities expansion bond program, and
14- the campus has since offered classes in band, mariachi, choir,
15- and art, alongside dual language instruction, gifted and
16- talented programming, special education programming, and
17- guidance services for eligible students; and

2428 WHEREAS, For a century, Washington Irving Dual Language
2529 Academy has provided young Texans with a solid educational

28- it is a privilege to join in celebrating this special milestone
29- in the school's history; now, therefore, be it
30- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
31- Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Washington Irving
32- Dual Language Academy on its centennial and extend to its
33- administrators, faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes
34- for continued success; and, be it further
31+ become productive and engaged members of their communities, and it
32+ is a privilege to join in celebrating this special milestone in the
33+ school's history; now, therefore, be it
34+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd
