2- WHEREAS, Mark Twain Dual Language Academy in the San
3- Antonio Independent School District is celebrating its 100th
4- anniversary in 2023; and
5- WHEREAS, San Antonio citizens voted in 1922 to establish
6- a pioneering junior high school system for students in grades
7- six through eight; the resulting eight campuses, which were
8- named after notable figures of American literature, opened in
9- 1923 and offered a bridge between elementary and high school
10- and a more challenging curriculum to better prepare students
11- to succeed; and
12- WHEREAS, Ably guided by principal David Garcia and
13- assistant principals Elena Aldaz and Gisella Calejo, Mark Twain
14- Dual Language Academy currently serves students in
15- prekindergarten through the eighth grade; the school opened as a
16- dual language institution during the 2017-2018 school year, and
17- its unique curriculum allows students to receive academic
18- instruction in both Spanish and English; the academy also offers
19- extracurricular programs such as mariachi and sports, and it has
20- been recognized with an A rating; and

6+ WHEREAS, Mark Twain Dual Language Academy in the San Antonio
7+ Independent School District is celebrating its 100th anniversary in

9+ WHEREAS, San Antonio citizens voted in 1922 to establish a

26- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
27- Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th
28- anniversary of Mark Twain Dual Language Academy and extend to its
29- students, faculty, staff, and alumni sincere best wishes for
30- continued success; and, be it further
