| 8 | 8 | | assignment of district and campus performance ratings under the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | public school accountability system. |

| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 39.054, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | adding Subsection (a-6) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (a-6) For purposes of assigning an overall performance |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | rating for a district or campus under Subsection (a), the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | commissioner by rule shall adopt a method for evaluating district |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | or campus performance that: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (1) provides for: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (A) the assignment of a point value to each |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | distinction designation awarded to a district or campus under |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Subchapter G; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (B) consideration of the number of points earned |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | by a district or campus under Paragraph (A); and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (2) ensures that the assigned weight of the total |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | point value for distinction designations does not account for more |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | than seven percent of the overall performance rating. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2024-2025 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | school year. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | last day of the legislative session. |
