6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Buffalo Trail Council of Scouts BSA is |

7 | 7 | | celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In response to a lack of scouting in West Texas, the |
---|
9 | 9 | | Buffalo Trail Council was organized on November 1, 1923, and its |
---|
10 | 10 | | name reflects the presence of buffalo tracks found in the sandstone |
---|
11 | 11 | | near Big Spring; in 1948, the council acquired a 6,000-acre tract of |
---|
12 | 12 | | land in the Davis Mountains for camping, and a council service |
---|
13 | 13 | | center was purchased in 1959 in Midland following a fundraising |
---|
14 | 14 | | campaign; in addition to gifts from the Humble Pipe Line Company and |
---|
15 | 15 | | the Mobil oil company, the group received land from the American |
---|
16 | 16 | | Petrofina Corporation and a large dining hall, and over the years, |
---|
17 | 17 | | what came to be known as the Hughes Aquatic Base has been used for |
---|
18 | 18 | | programs such as aquatic camps, wood badge and University of |
---|
19 | 19 | | Scouting College of Commissioner Science courses, weekend camping, |
---|
20 | 20 | | and other training events; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Buffalo Trail Council encompasses more |
---|
22 | 22 | | than 30 units and its members include more than 700 scouts from |
---|
23 | 23 | | Brewster, Presidio, Jeff Davis, Culberson, Reeves, Loving, |
---|
24 | 24 | | Winkler, Ward, Ector, Andrews, Midland, Martin, Howard, Glasscock, |
---|
25 | 25 | | Mitchell, Borden, Scurry, and Sterling Counties; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The Buffalo Trail Council has made a significant |
---|
27 | 27 | | difference in the lives of countless young Texans while |
---|
28 | 28 | | contributing to the betterment of the community, and it is indeed a |
---|
29 | 29 | | pleasure to join in recognizing this momentous milestone in the |
---|
30 | 30 | | group's rich history; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas, |
---|
32 | 32 | | 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the |
---|
33 | 33 | | Buffalo Trail Council of Scouts BSA and extend to all those |
---|
34 | 34 | | affiliated with the group sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
---|
35 | 35 | | be it further |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

37 | 37 | | prepared for the council as an expression of high regard by the |
---|
38 | 38 | | Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
