55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
66 memories of Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry of San Benito, who passed
77 away on April 21, 2023, at the age of 91; and
88 WHEREAS, The daughter of Emeterio and Eva Arellano, Celia
99 Arellano Gentry was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico on March 3,
1010 1932; she lived a fulfilling and joyous childhood alongside her
1111 siblings; Ernestine, Antonia, Emeterio, Aurora and Rosemary.
1212 WHEREAS, Ms. Gentry graduated in 1952 from San Benito High
1313 School where she was a member of the San Benito Band. She attended
1414 Texas Womans University and graduated with a Bachelor degree in
1515 Education. In 1979 she attended Pan American University and
1616 graduated with a Masters Degree in Special Education and in 1986
1717 received her Doctorate in Child Psychology from Texas Womans
1818 University.
1919 WHEREAS, Her teaching career started in 1954 in Palacios
2020 CISD. She taught in Harlingen CISD and San Benito CISD for more than
2121 25 years. Dr. Gentry retired from Fort Worth CISD in 1999. After her
2222 retirement, Dr. Gentry continued working for Weslaco CISD where she
2323 taught special education classes and children who were very ill and
2424 home bound. For over a decade, Dr. Gentry worked with numerous
2525 children who needed individualized tutoring, especially children
2626 that were impacted during Covid. Her teaching career spanned over
2727 68 years and touched the lives of over 2,000 children
2828 WHEREAS, She took great pride in her three children, Leslie,
2929 Bobby, and Yvonne; with the passage of time, her treasured family
3030 grew to include six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and
3131 WHEREAS, Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry lived a life that was rich
3232 in personal and professional achievements, and she will forever be
3333 a source of inspiration to those she leaves behind; now, therefore,
3434 be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3636 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
3737 of Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry and extend heartfelt sympathy to the
3838 members of her family: to her children, Leslie Whittemore, Bobby
3939 Gentry and Yvonne Guerra; to her grandchildren, Christina Baker,
4040 Katherine Whittaker, Bobby Gentry Jr., Westin Gentry, Taite Gentry,
4141 and Elizabeth Carrillo; and to her other relatives and many
4242 friends; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4545 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Celia
4646 Arellano Gentry.
