5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

6 | 6 | | memories of Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry of San Benito, who passed |
---|
7 | 7 | | away on April 21, 2023, at the age of 91; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Emeterio and Eva Arellano, Celia |
---|
9 | 9 | | Arellano Gentry was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico on March 3, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1932; she lived a fulfilling and joyous childhood alongside her |
---|
11 | 11 | | siblings; Ernestine, Antonia, Emeterio, Aurora and Rosemary. |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Gentry graduated in 1952 from San Benito High |
---|
13 | 13 | | School where she was a member of the San Benito Band. She attended |
---|
14 | 14 | | Texas Womans University and graduated with a Bachelor degree in |
---|
15 | 15 | | Education. In 1979 she attended Pan American University and |
---|
16 | 16 | | graduated with a Masters Degree in Special Education and in 1986 |
---|
17 | 17 | | received her Doctorate in Child Psychology from Texas Womans |
---|
18 | 18 | | University. |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Her teaching career started in 1954 in Palacios |
---|
20 | 20 | | CISD. She taught in Harlingen CISD and San Benito CISD for more than |
---|
21 | 21 | | 25 years. Dr. Gentry retired from Fort Worth CISD in 1999. After her |
---|
22 | 22 | | retirement, Dr. Gentry continued working for Weslaco CISD where she |
---|
23 | 23 | | taught special education classes and children who were very ill and |
---|
24 | 24 | | home bound. For over a decade, Dr. Gentry worked with numerous |
---|
25 | 25 | | children who needed individualized tutoring, especially children |
---|
26 | 26 | | that were impacted during Covid. Her teaching career spanned over |
---|
27 | 27 | | 68 years and touched the lives of over 2,000 children |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, She took great pride in her three children, Leslie, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Bobby, and Yvonne; with the passage of time, her treasured family |
---|
30 | 30 | | grew to include six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry lived a life that was rich |
---|
32 | 32 | | in personal and professional achievements, and she will forever be |
---|
33 | 33 | | a source of inspiration to those she leaves behind; now, therefore, |
---|
34 | 34 | | be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

36 | 36 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |

37 | 37 | | of Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry and extend heartfelt sympathy to the |

38 | 38 | | members of her family: to her children, Leslie Whittemore, Bobby |

39 | 39 | | Gentry and Yvonne Guerra; to her grandchildren, Christina Baker, |

40 | 40 | | Katherine Whittaker, Bobby Gentry Jr., Westin Gentry, Taite Gentry, |
---|
41 | 41 | | and Elizabeth Carrillo; and to her other relatives and many |

42 | 42 | | friends; and, be it further |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
