| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The City of San Marcos celebrated Ralph Gonzales Day |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | on November 6, 2023, to honor the founder of Nosotros La Gente, an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | area nonprofit dedicated to serving the community; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Nosotros La Gente was established in 1996 with the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | mission to improve the lives of families in the San Marcos area and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | promote equality and justice for all citizens; the organization |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | initially began in Mr. Gonzales's home, with his family assisting |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | with fundraisers; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Each year, Nosotros La Gente hosts the Viva Zapatos |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Shoe Drive, which provides shoes for local youth and was inspired by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Mr. Gonzales's own struggles growing up without proper footwear; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the organization also helps area residents with utilities, medical |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | assistance, and transportation, and it has held a turkey dinner for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the community during the Thanksgiving holiday; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, Nosotros La Gente has made a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | positive difference in the lives of countless San Marcos citizens, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and Ralph Gonzales Day represents a fitting tribute to the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | organization's founder and his exemplary record of good works; now, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate Ralph Gonzales |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Day in San Marcos and commend Mr. Gonzales and all those involved |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | with Nosotros La Gente for their service to the community; and, be |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | it further |
