5	5	WHEREAS, Dr. Bill Coppola is retiring as president of Tarrant
6	6	County College Southeast Campus on January 31, 2024, after four
7	7	decades in higher education and 12 years with TCC; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Dr. Coppola began his career in 1984, when he
9	9	accepted a position at the Dallas County Community College
10	10	District; over the course of 15 years, he played an instrumental
11	11	role in developing and implementing the college's video technology
12	12	program; he also served on the faculty at North Lake College for 12
13	13	years, and he went on to hold a number of administrative positions,
14	14	culminating in his service as dean of technical education; he later
15	15	joined the Maricopa Community College District at Phoenix College,
16	16	where he served as senior associate dean of instruction and
17	17	director of the City Colleges Center; and
18	18	WHEREAS, In 2002, Dr. Coppola became dean of instruction,
19	19	computer information, and applied technology at the North Harris
20	20	Campus in the Lone Star College System; he subsequently transferred
21	21	to the Kingwood Campus, and he served as executive director of
22	22	academic partnerships and initiatives before becoming vice
23	23	president of instruction and chief academic officer; he took on his
24	24	current role as the second president of Tarrant County College
25	25	Southeast Campus in 2012, and under his able leadership, the campus
26	26	won the prestigious Eduardo J. Padron Award for Institutional
27	27	Transformation in 2021; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Dr. Coppola has been active in numerous civic and
29	29	professional organizations, including the Greater Arlington
30	30	Chamber of Commerce Board, the City of Arlington Transportation
31	31	Advisory Committee, the Fort Worth Mayor's Council on Education and
32	32	Workforce Development, the American Association of Community
33	33	Colleges Commission on Structured Pathways, the National Alliance
34	34	of Community & Technical Colleges, and the Higher Education
35	35	Research and Development Institute; he is also founding chair of
36	36	the Arlington Mayor's Education Coalition, and he has served as
37	37	vice chair of Campus Compact; and
38	38	WHEREAS, Among his many accolades, Dr. Coppola has received
39	39	multiple awards in recognition of his contributions to the field of
40	40	education; he holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State
41	41	University as well as a master's degree and a doctorate from the
42	42	University of North Texas; and
43	43	WHEREAS, Dr. Bill Coppola has led the TCC Southeast Campus
44	44	with tremendous vision, energy, and dedication, and he may indeed
45	45	reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next
46	46	exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
47	47	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
48	48	Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Bill
49	49	Coppola on his retirement as president of Tarrant County College
50	50	Southeast Campus and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
51	51	future; and, be it further
52	52	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	53	prepared for Dr. Coppola as an expression of high regard by the
54	54	Texas House of Representatives.
