 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The late Helen Alcala is being posthumously honored
 as a namesake candidate for the Child Nutrition Center at the Hays
 Consolidated Independent School District; and
 WHEREAS, A third-generation native of the Buda area,
 Mrs. Alcala worked as a child nutrition employee at the historic
 Buda School campus for many years; following her retirement from
 Hays CISD, she accepted a position as a cook at the Texas School for
 the Deaf; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Alcala and her husband, Pedro "Pete" Alcala,
 opened Casa Alde, the first Mexican restaurant in Buda, in July
 1980; under their able stewardship, the business gained a loyal
 following, and after Mr. Alcala's passing in 1992, Mrs. Alcala
 continued to oversee its operations; she later stepped away from
 working at the restaurant, but she still made regular appearances
 to greet customers until her health declined in 2016, a short time
 before her death on June 11, 2017; today, Casa Alde is the oldest
 eatery on Main Street, and it has remained a popular family-owned
 establishment; and
 WHEREAS, Helen Alcala set an inspiring example of hard work,
 dedication, and leadership, and it is a pleasure to join Hays CISD
 in honoring her memory and recognizing her many achievements; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the legacy
 of Helen Alcala on her posthumous selection as a namesake candidate
 for the Child Nutrition Center at the Hays Consolidated Independent
 School District; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
