| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Augustin Rivera Jr. is receiving the 37th annual |

| 6 | 6 | | Distinguished Citizen of the Year award from the South Texas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Council Boy Scouts of America on November 30, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The South Texas Council annually recognizes a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | resident of the Coastal Bend area who has made significant |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | contributions to the broader community; this year, Augie Rivera is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | being honored for the positive impact he has made in South Texas; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | School, Mr. Rivera currently serves as general counsel for the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Del Mar College District, where he is also a member of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | president's executive team; his previous experience includes |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | nearly three decades of service as a civil trial and appellate |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | lawyer; along the way, he has distinguished himself as chair of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Texas Board of Law Examiners and as a member of the board of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | directors for the National Conference of Bar Examiners and the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | National Association of College and University Attorneys; he has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | been recognized at the local, state, and national levels for his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | professional accomplishments; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rivera has held leadership positions with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | numerous civic organizations, including South Texas Public |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Broadcasting, Inc., Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Foundation, Ethics |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Commission of the City of Corpus Christi, and the Corpus Christi |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Housing Authority; in addition, he has volunteered as a coach for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | youth baseball, basketball, and chess; he has been active in the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | scouting program, and in 2019, he served as centennial board |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | president of the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America; among |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his many achievements, he received a Silver Beaver Award; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Through his outstanding record of service, Augie |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Rivera exemplifies the high ideals of the Boy Scouts of America, and |

| 35 | 35 | | he is indeed worthy of this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Augustin |
