5	5	WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
6	6	a close with the passing of the Reverend Bryan Dunagan of Dallas on
7	7	October 26, 2023, at the age of 44; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The son of Deborah and Michael Dunagan, Bryan
9	9	Dunagan was born in Dallas on September 21, 1979; he moved to
10	10	Houston during middle school and earned his bachelor's degree in
11	11	political science from Stanford University, where he was active in
12	12	campus ministries and played lacrosse; he went on to earn a master
13	13	of divinity degree from Regent College and a doctor of ministry
14	14	degree from Fuller Theological Seminary; he served congregations in
15	15	California, Washington State, and Houston before becoming a
16	16	teaching pastor at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where
17	17	he expanded youth outreach and increased attendance; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Reverend Dunagan was installed as senior pastor of
19	19	Highland Park Presbyterian Church in 2014, at the age of 34; he
20	20	guided the congregation through a denominational change, a major
21	21	building campaign, and the upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic; in
22	22	addition, he led the planting of three local churches, Peak Street
23	23	Church, Grace Church Lake Highlands, and Good Shepherd Oak Cliff; a
24	24	gifted scholar and communicator with a self-deprecating sense of
25	25	humor, he was able to distill his wide-ranging theological
26	26	scholarship for a general audience, sometimes incorporating
27	27	relevant pop culture references; under his leadership, the church
28	28	experienced record growth; and
29	29	WHEREAS, In 2008, Reverend Dunagan married the former Alison
30	30	Wheeler; he championed her passion for global missions and they
31	31	shared their faith with people from Cuba and the Dominican Republic
32	32	to Kenya, Pakistan, and Turkey; the devoted couple was blessed with
33	33	three children, Annie, Wheeler, and Collier Jane; Reverend Dunagan
34	34	instilled in them a love of the great outdoors and enjoyed coaching
35	35	his son in lacrosse and cheering for his daughters at their athletic
36	36	events; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Bryan Dunagan touched countless lives through his
38	38	warmth, kindness, and compassion, and although his loss is
39	39	difficult to bear, he will forever be a source of inspiration to all
40	40	who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
42	42	Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
43	43	the Reverend Bryan Dunagan and extend sincere sympathy to the
44	44	members of his family: to his wife, Ali Dunagan; to his children,
45	45	Annie, Wheeler, and Collier Jane Dunagan; to his father, Michael
46	46	Dunagan; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it
47	47	further
48	48	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
49	49	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
50	50	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bryan
51	51	Dunagan.
