44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
66 a close with the passing of the Reverend Bryan Dunagan of Dallas on
77 October 26, 2023, at the age of 44; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Deborah and Michael Dunagan, Bryan
99 Dunagan was born in Dallas on September 21, 1979; he moved to
1010 Houston during middle school and earned his bachelor's degree in
1111 political science from Stanford University, where he was active in
1212 campus ministries and played lacrosse; he went on to earn a master
1313 of divinity degree from Regent College and a doctor of ministry
1414 degree from Fuller Theological Seminary; he served congregations in
1515 California, Washington State, and Houston before becoming a
1616 teaching pastor at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where
1717 he expanded youth outreach and increased attendance; and
1818 WHEREAS, Reverend Dunagan was installed as senior pastor of
1919 Highland Park Presbyterian Church in 2014, at the age of 34; he
2020 guided the congregation through a denominational change, a major
2121 building campaign, and the upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic; in
2222 addition, he led the planting of three local churches, Peak Street
2323 Church, Grace Church Lake Highlands, and Good Shepherd Oak Cliff; a
2424 gifted scholar and communicator with a self-deprecating sense of
2525 humor, he was able to distill his wide-ranging theological
2626 scholarship for a general audience, sometimes incorporating
2727 relevant pop culture references; under his leadership, the church
2828 experienced record growth; and
2929 WHEREAS, In 2008, Reverend Dunagan married the former Alison
3030 Wheeler; he championed her passion for global missions and they
3131 shared their faith with people from Cuba and the Dominican Republic
3232 to Kenya, Pakistan, and Turkey; the devoted couple was blessed with
3333 three children, Annie, Wheeler, and Collier Jane; Reverend Dunagan
3434 instilled in them a love of the great outdoors and enjoyed coaching
3535 his son in lacrosse and cheering for his daughters at their athletic
3636 events; and
3737 WHEREAS, Bryan Dunagan touched countless lives through his
3838 warmth, kindness, and compassion, and although his loss is
3939 difficult to bear, he will forever be a source of inspiration to all
4040 who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4242 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
4343 the Reverend Bryan Dunagan and extend sincere sympathy to the
4444 members of his family: to his wife, Ali Dunagan; to his children,
4545 Annie, Wheeler, and Collier Jane Dunagan; to his father, Michael
4646 Dunagan; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it
4747 further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5050 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bryan
5151 Dunagan.
