| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Christian Torres of Pharr received the |

| 7 | 7 | | Disabilities at its Lex Frieden Employment Awards ceremony on |

| 8 | 8 | | October 26, 2023; and |

| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Each October, in conjunction with National |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Governor's Committee |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | recognizes Texans who have dedicated themselves to empowering their |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | employees, co-workers, and fellow Texans with disabilities; the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | awards program is named in tribute to disability rights expert Lex |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Frieden, one of the chief architects of the Americans with |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Disabilities Act; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Entrepreneurship Award is presented to an |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | individual with a disability who has shown extraordinary ingenuity |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and drive in establishing and sustaining a successful business that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | creates jobs and accessible services for others; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Torres is the owner and founder of Christian's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Cookie House, which provides stuffed cookies and other sweets to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Texans in the Rio Grande Valley; he is a member of numerous |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | community organizations, and he makes contributions to charitable |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | causes across the area; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Christian Torres has distinguished himself as an |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | inspiring example of the entrepreneurial spirit of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | State, and he is richly deserving of this prestigious honor; now, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Christian |
