| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Each October, in conjunction with National |

| 10 | 10 | | Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Governor's Committee |

| 11 | 11 | | recognizes Texans who have dedicated themselves to empowering their |

| 12 | 12 | | employees, coworkers, and fellow Texans with disabilities; the |

| 13 | 13 | | awards program is named in tribute to disability rights expert Lex |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Frieden, one of the chief architects of the Americans with |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Disabilities Act; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Martha Arbuckle Award recognizes an innovative |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | local community project and is presented in memory of Martha |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Arbuckle, who was a longtime disability advocate in Austin; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The Valley Association for Independent Living |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | fosters job opportunities for individuals with disabilities by |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | collaborating with service providers, educational institutions, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | commercial businesses, and supportive organizations; managed and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | staffed by individuals with disabilities, VAIL helps its clients |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | identify career opportunities, participate in job fairs, earn |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | certifications, access assistive technology, and work toward |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | permanent employment; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Through its outstanding contributions, VAIL has |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | advanced the mission of building an inclusive, accessible work |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | environment for Texans with disabilities, and it is richly |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | deserving of this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate the Valley |

| 33 | 33 | | Association for Independent Living on receiving the 2023 Martha |

| 34 | 34 | | Arbuckle Award from the Governor's Committee on People with |
