9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, One of the longest-established college ranking |

10 | 10 | | systems in the country, U.S.News and World Report has evaluated |

11 | 11 | | nearly 1,500 academic institutions for its 2023-2024 Best Colleges |
---|
12 | 12 | | list, and UTRGV has climbed 72 positions since last year to place |
---|
13 | 13 | | 227th among all national universities; U.S. News has also |
---|
14 | 14 | | recognized UTRGV in a number of other areas, including as third for |
---|
15 | 15 | | its undergraduate teaching and first in social mobility among |
---|
16 | 16 | | public universities statewide; overall, the school placed sixth |
---|
17 | 17 | | among public universities in Texas and 123rd among public |
---|
18 | 18 | | universities across the nation; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Washington Monthly awards points to universities |
---|
20 | 20 | | that encourage civic engagement, promote economic growth, and help |

21 | 21 | | non-wealthy students earn remunerative degrees; based on those |

22 | 22 | | criteria, UTRGV was designated as the top university in Texas and |
---|
23 | 23 | | the 31st among all public universities in the nation at the start of |
---|
24 | 24 | | the 2023-2024 academic year; the university also earned first place |
---|
25 | 25 | | rankings statewide and high rankings nationally for performance of |
---|
26 | 26 | | Pell Grant students, net price of attendance, and social mobility; |
---|

28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, DegreeChoices.com annually ranks hundreds of |

29 | 29 | | colleges and universities from across the United States on the |
---|
30 | 30 | | economic return that students could expect from attending their |

31 | 31 | | respective schools; this year, UTRGV has placed third for best |

32 | 32 | | colleges in Texas and earned high ratings in the national |

33 | 33 | | categories for master's in social work programs and bachelor's |

34 | 34 | | programs in criminal justice; in addition, the school placed first |

35 | 35 | | among Texas public universities for best relative economic value, |

36 | 36 | | and overall, it ranked seventh among national public schools and |

38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Through its steadfast commitment to accessible, |

39 | 39 | | high-quality education, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley |

41 | 41 | | Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the school |
