5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of San Angelo lost an admired community |
---|
6 | 6 | | leader with the passing of Wylie O. Webb on June 24, 2023, at the age |
---|
7 | 7 | | of 90; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Wylie Webb was born to Clyde and Oval Webb in San |
---|
9 | 9 | | Angelo on March 17, 1933; after graduating from San Angelo High |
---|
10 | 10 | | School, he joined the U.S. Air Force, training as an aircraft and |
---|
11 | 11 | | engine mechanic and as a B-29 flight engineer and subsequently |
---|
12 | 12 | | serving at an air base in South Korea and at Tinker Air Force Base in |
---|
13 | 13 | | Oklahoma; following his military service, he attended San Angelo |
---|
14 | 14 | | College and went on to earn a business administration degree from |
---|
15 | 15 | | The University of Texas at Austin; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career as a certified public |
---|
17 | 17 | | accountant, Mr. Webb worked for the Jones, Freeze, Hay & Company |
---|
18 | 18 | | accounting firm and then for Hall, McCoulsky, and Bachman, where he |
---|
19 | 19 | | became a partner; in 1977, he cofounded the Webb & Webb accounting |
---|
20 | 20 | | firm, and he retired from his practice in 2017, concluding an |
---|
21 | 21 | | exemplary tenure that spanned four decades; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Webb was elected to the San Angelo City |
---|
23 | 23 | | Commission in 1968 and as mayor of the city two years later; he |
---|
24 | 24 | | demonstrated tremendous leadership in that office, helping to |
---|
25 | 25 | | establish permanent underground water supplies for the city's three |
---|
26 | 26 | | reservoirs; he also served as president of the San Angelo |
---|
27 | 27 | | Independent School District board and the San Angelo Chamber of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Commerce and as a member of the Board of City Development and the |
---|
29 | 29 | | River Corridor Commission; moreover, he was a San Angelo Chamber of |
---|
30 | 30 | | Commerce Citizen of the Year, a lifetime board member of the Mary |
---|
31 | 31 | | Ellen Kent Bunyard Family Foundation, and a recipient of the |
---|
32 | 32 | | Distinguished Public Service Award from the Texas Society of |
---|
33 | 33 | | Certified Public Accountants; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Webb enjoyed the love and |
---|
35 | 35 | | support of his wife of 54 years, Anita Glyn Russell Webb; he took |
---|
36 | 36 | | great pride in his daughter, Aleesa Shawn Webb, and his grandson, |
---|
37 | 37 | | Wylie "Gage" Hahn; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Although Wylie Webb is deeply missed, memories of |
---|
39 | 39 | | his integrity, his kindness, and his devotion to his family remain |
---|
40 | 40 | | to comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
43 | 43 | | Wylie O. Webb and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his |
---|
44 | 44 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
46 | 46 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
47 | 47 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wylie Webb. |
