44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The citizens of San Angelo lost an admired community
66 leader with the passing of Wylie O. Webb on June 24, 2023, at the age
77 of 90; and
88 WHEREAS, Wylie Webb was born to Clyde and Oval Webb in San
99 Angelo on March 17, 1933; after graduating from San Angelo High
1010 School, he joined the U.S. Air Force, training as an aircraft and
1111 engine mechanic and as a B-29 flight engineer and subsequently
1212 serving at an air base in South Korea and at Tinker Air Force Base in
1313 Oklahoma; following his military service, he attended San Angelo
1414 College and went on to earn a business administration degree from
1515 The University of Texas at Austin; and
1616 WHEREAS, Over the course of his career as a certified public
1717 accountant, Mr. Webb worked for the Jones, Freeze, Hay & Company
1818 accounting firm and then for Hall, McCoulsky, and Bachman, where he
1919 became a partner; in 1977, he cofounded the Webb & Webb accounting
2020 firm, and he retired from his practice in 2017, concluding an
2121 exemplary tenure that spanned four decades; and
2222 WHEREAS, Mr. Webb was elected to the San Angelo City
2323 Commission in 1968 and as mayor of the city two years later; he
2424 demonstrated tremendous leadership in that office, helping to
2525 establish permanent underground water supplies for the city's three
2626 reservoirs; he also served as president of the San Angelo
2727 Independent School District board and the San Angelo Chamber of
2828 Commerce and as a member of the Board of City Development and the
2929 River Corridor Commission; moreover, he was a San Angelo Chamber of
3030 Commerce Citizen of the Year, a lifetime board member of the Mary
3131 Ellen Kent Bunyard Family Foundation, and a recipient of the
3232 Distinguished Public Service Award from the Texas Society of
3333 Certified Public Accountants; and
3434 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Webb enjoyed the love and
3535 support of his wife of 54 years, Anita Glyn Russell Webb; he took
3636 great pride in his daughter, Aleesa Shawn Webb, and his grandson,
3737 Wylie "Gage" Hahn; and
3838 WHEREAS, Although Wylie Webb is deeply missed, memories of
3939 his integrity, his kindness, and his devotion to his family remain
4040 to comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4242 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
4343 Wylie O. Webb and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his
4444 passing; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4747 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wylie Webb.
