5	5	WHEREAS, Charles W. Zahn Jr. is concluding his noteworthy
6	6	tenure as chair of the Port of Corpus Christi Commission in January
7	7	2024; and
8	8	WHEREAS, A member of the commission since 2012, Charlie Zahn
9	9	was first elected chair in 2016; he has worked tirelessly to enhance
10	10	the port's infrastructure, and construction of the deepening and
11	11	widening of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project
12	12	will be completed in 2025; the port has continued to set records for
13	13	growth in goods movements; in 2022, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times
14	14	named him Newsmaker of the Year to recognize his contributions to
15	15	the success of the region's primary economic engine; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Mr. Zahn is a longtime resident of Port Aransas;
17	17	dedicated to his community, he has served in many leadership roles,
18	18	including president of the Port Aransas Independent School District
19	19	Board of Trustees and chair of the Texas State Aquarium Board of
20	20	Trustees and Nueces County Board of Coastal Parks; he has been
21	21	active in the Boy Scouts of America for more than seven decades and
22	22	served the organization as both president and chair of the South
23	23	Texas Council; in addition, he has been vice chair of the Corpus
24	24	Christi Metropolitan Planning Organization and a member of the
25	25	Alliance for I-69 Texas and the Texas Department of Transportation
26	26	I-69 Advisory Committee; he has also given of his time and expertise
27	27	to such organizations as the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation
28	28	Advisory Board, Port Aransas Charter Review Commission, Port
29	29	Aransas Community Theatre, Friends of the Ellis Memorial Library,
30	30	and Coastal Conservation Association; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Among numerous accolades, Mr. Zahn has received the
32	32	Distinguished Citizen and President's Awards from the Boy Scouts of
33	33	America and the Henry Baldwin Award from the United Corpus Christi
34	34	Chamber of Commerce; he is a member of the Port Aransas Boatmen Hall
35	35	of Fame, and he was named 2005 Citizen of the Year by the City of
36	36	Port Aransas; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Mr. Zahn is a partner in the Law Offices of Charles
38	38	W. Zahn Jr. and focuses his practice on real estate and water law;
39	39	he holds a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a doctor
40	40	of jurisprudence degree from Baylor University; in all his
41	41	endeavors, he is supported by the love and encouragement of his
42	42	wife, Linda; they take great pride in a fine family that includes
43	43	two children, three grandchildren, and a great-grandson; and
44	44	WHEREAS, Through his vision, skill, and professionalism,
45	45	Charlie Zahn has greatly advanced the mission of the Port of Corpus
46	46	Christi Commission, and his achievements have earned the respect
47	47	and admiration of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
48	48	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
49	49	Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Charles W. Zahn Jr.
50	50	for his service as chair of the Port of Corpus Christi Commission
51	51	and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
52	52	further
53	53	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
54	54	prepared for Mr. Zahn as an expression of high regard by the Texas
55	55	House of Representatives.
