55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, Texans with disabilities are an underserved
77 population in our state; and
88 WHEREAS, Due to their specific needs, persons with
99 disabilities are sometimes placed in state-supervised
1010 guardianships to oversee their care; and
1111 WHEREAS, Currently, guardianships encompass the care of
1212 persons with disabilities of all ages; the supervision of a person
1313 who cannot care for him or herself is a high priority of the state;
1414 recent events have shown the need for review of the state safeguards
1515 and methodology for ensuring that wards under guardianship are
1616 being protected from all types of abuse; now, therefore, be it
1717 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas,
1818 4th Called Session, hereby request that the Lieutenant Governor and
1919 the Speaker of the House of Representatives create a joint interim
2020 committee to study deficiencies in the State of Texas systems for
2121 protecting wards under state-supervised guardianships; and, be it
2222 further
2323 RESOLVED, That the committee submit a full report, including
2424 findings and recommendations, to the 89th Texas Legislature in
2525 January 2025.
