5	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	7		commemorates the life of Adrian DeJuan Smith, who died on
7	8		November 1, 2023, at the age of 52; and
8	9		WHEREAS, Adrian Smith was born on January 3, 1971, to
9	10		Reverend A. D. Smith and Janice Smith; he graduated from
10	11		Lancaster Elsie Robertson High School and went on to graduate
11	12		from Dallas Baptist University and earn a degree in electronics
12	13		technology from NEC Technical Institute in Dallas; and
13	14		WHEREAS, Endowed with a patriotic spirit, Adrian enlisted
14	15		in the United States Army and served with distinction for eight
15		-	years, when he was ~~voluntarily~~ discharged; a decorated soldier,
	16	+	years, when he was voluntary discharged; a decorated soldier,
16	17		Adrian earned a number of accolades for his courageous service,
17	18		including the Army Achievement Medal and the 59th Ordnance
18	19		Brigade Operation Golden Python Award; and
19	20		WHEREAS, An experienced and dedicated leader and technical
20	21		expert, Adrian was employed for over two decades at West Telecom
21	22		Services, working as a consultant, trainer, senior engineer,
22	23		technical analyst, and in numerous other critical roles; he was a
23	24		widely respected and beloved mentor and teacher who enriched the
24	25		knowledge of younger professionals in his field and was a source
25	26		of inspiration to his colleagues and associates; and
26	27		WHEREAS, Above all of his professional pursuits, Adrian
27	28		was a devoted father to his son, Khalil Ahmad Smith, whom he
28	29		raised by loving example, and he experienced the blessing of
29	30		having a second mother in the person of Evelyn Gilmore-Smith, who
30	31		was part of his life for 43 years; and
31	32		WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Adrian was
32	33		a charter member of Ebenezer Memorial Missionary Baptist Church,
33	34		where he served faithfully as a deacon, choir member, Sunday
34	35		school teacher, and instructor in the men's ministry; and
35	36		WHEREAS, Adrian was a beacon of light in the lives of his
36	37		family and friends, and the memory of his generous spirit will
37	38		long outlive him; he leaves behind precious memories that will be
38	39		forever treasured by his loved ones and by all who were
39	40		privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
40	41		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
41	42		Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby extend sincere
42	43		condolences to the bereaved family of Adrian DeJuan Smith; and,
43	44		be it further
44	45		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
45	46		them as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate
46	47		and that when the Senate adjourns on this day, it do so in memory
47	48		of Adrian DeJuan Smith.
