5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
67 commemorates the life of Adrian DeJuan Smith, who died on
78 November 1, 2023, at the age of 52; and
89 WHEREAS, Adrian Smith was born on January 3, 1971, to
910 Reverend A. D. Smith and Janice Smith; he graduated from
1011 Lancaster Elsie Robertson High School and went on to graduate
1112 from Dallas Baptist University and earn a degree in electronics
1213 technology from NEC Technical Institute in Dallas; and
1314 WHEREAS, Endowed with a patriotic spirit, Adrian enlisted
1415 in the United States Army and served with distinction for eight
15- years, when he was voluntarily discharged; a decorated soldier,
16+ years, when he was voluntary discharged; a decorated soldier,
1617 Adrian earned a number of accolades for his courageous service,
1718 including the Army Achievement Medal and the 59th Ordnance
1819 Brigade Operation Golden Python Award; and
1920 WHEREAS, An experienced and dedicated leader and technical
2021 expert, Adrian was employed for over two decades at West Telecom
2122 Services, working as a consultant, trainer, senior engineer,
2223 technical analyst, and in numerous other critical roles; he was a
2324 widely respected and beloved mentor and teacher who enriched the
2425 knowledge of younger professionals in his field and was a source
2526 of inspiration to his colleagues and associates; and
2627 WHEREAS, Above all of his professional pursuits, Adrian
2728 was a devoted father to his son, Khalil Ahmad Smith, whom he
2829 raised by loving example, and he experienced the blessing of
2930 having a second mother in the person of Evelyn Gilmore-Smith, who
3031 was part of his life for 43 years; and
3132 WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Adrian was
3233 a charter member of Ebenezer Memorial Missionary Baptist Church,
3334 where he served faithfully as a deacon, choir member, Sunday
3435 school teacher, and instructor in the men's ministry; and
3536 WHEREAS, Adrian was a beacon of light in the lives of his
3637 family and friends, and the memory of his generous spirit will
3738 long outlive him; he leaves behind precious memories that will be
3839 forever treasured by his loved ones and by all who were
3940 privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4142 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby extend sincere
4243 condolences to the bereaved family of Adrian DeJuan Smith; and,
4344 be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4546 them as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate
4647 and that when the Senate adjourns on this day, it do so in memory
4748 of Adrian DeJuan Smith.
