2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		recognize Vietnam War veteran James Baylor, who is being
4	8		presented with the Bronze Star by the United States Army and the
5	9		National Rakkasan Association, 187th Infantry Regiment; and
6		-	WHEREAS, James Baylor was awarded the Bronze Star more ~~than~~
7		-	five decades ago for his meritorious service in the United ~~States~~
8		-	Army during the Vietnam War; and
	10	+	WHEREAS, James Baylor was awarded the Bronze Star more
	11	+	than five decades ago for his meritorious service in the United
	12	+	States Army during the Vietnam War; and
9	13		WHEREAS, A man of exceptional courage, determination, and
10	14		patriotic spirit, James demonstrated tremendous heroism and
11	15		dedication to duty during the Battle of Hamburger Hill in May of
12	16		1969 in Southern Vietnam's A Shau Valley; and
13	17		WHEREAS, On November 19, 2023, the City of DeSoto will hold
14	18		a ceremony in James Baylor's honor, where he will be presented
15	19		with the Bronze Star with a V device for Valor, one of our
16	20		nation's highest individual military decorations for valor; and
17	21		WHEREAS, He will also be awarded the Purple Heart for the
18	22		battle wounds he sustained and will receive the Presidential Unit
19	23		Citation, the nation's highest award for valorous actions taken
20	24		by a unit in combat; in addition, Mr. Baylor will be honored with
21	25		numerous individual and unit awards, badges, and ribbons for his
22	26		exemplary military service; and
23	27		WHEREAS, After 54 years, it is truly fitting that a
24	28		ceremony be held in honor of this distinguished veteran and
25	29		treasured DeSoto resident and that he receive special
26	30		recognition for his courageous and heroic actions in the line of
27	31		duty; now, therefore, be it
28	32		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
29	33		Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to James
30	34		Baylor for his honorable and selfless service and extend to him
31	35		eternal gratitude for his contributions to the liberty and
32	36		security of our nation; and, be it further
33	37		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	38		him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
