| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Robert A. Williams Jr., who is being honored by New |

| 4 | 4 | | Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas as the 2023 |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Sword of the Spirit recipient; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. R. A. Williams Jr. is a beloved and respected |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | minister and teacher committed to global ministry and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | evangelism; a native of Houston, this esteemed preacher is the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | pastor of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church in Los Angeles, where he |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | has faithfully ministered to the temporal and spiritual needs of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | his congregation for more than 30 years; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Southern University, he went |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | on to earn his master's and doctorate degrees from California |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Graduate School of Theology, and he was awarded a second |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | doctorate degree of divinity from Faith Seminary in Tacoma, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Washington; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Dr. Williams is active in a number of faith-based organizations, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | including the Western Baptist State Convention and the Los Angeles |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Police Clergy Council; he is the founder and president of the WHW |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Ministers Conference, an annual event that instructs ministers and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Bible teachers in the art of biblical exposition; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Guided by a spirit of obedience to scriptural |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | truth, Dr. Williams has received numerous accolades and honors |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | for his contributions, including being knighted as a Kentucky |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Colonel in 1984 by the state's governor; throughout his ministry, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | he has continued to provide a path of hope and enlightenment that |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | has benefited countless individuals and communities around the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | globe; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Dr. Williams has led his church with loyalty and dedication and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | has encouraged his congregation to persevere in holiness and the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | pursuit of knowledge; his mentorship is a blessing to church |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | leaders and members, and his example and faithful teachings are a |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | source of inspiration and empowerment to innumerable Christians; |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Robert A. |

| 39 | 39 | | Williams Jr. and join the members of New Pilgrim Rest Missionary |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Baptist Church in honoring him as the 2023 Sword of the Spirit |

| 41 | 41 | | recipient; and, be it further |

| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
