11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the Cameron Lions Club on the grand occasion of the
44 organization's 100th anniversary; and
55 WHEREAS, Chartered on September 26, 1923, the Cameron
66 Lions Club represents District 2-S3 for Lions Clubs
77 International, which is the world's largest service club
88 organization and includes 1.4 million members in more than 47,000
99 clubs worldwide; and
1010 WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Cameron Lions Club has served
1111 and strengthened the city of Cameron and its residents through
1212 numerous service projects and philanthropic activities and has
1313 supported both the efforts of the Lions Clubs International and
1414 those of such local organizations as the Cameron Boy Scouts of
1515 America and the Cameron Chamber of Commerce; and
1616 WHEREAS, Drawing on Helen Keller's 1925 call to be "knights
1717 of the blind in a crusade against darkness," Lions Clubs have
1818 long been committed to promoting vision care and to providing
1919 resources and support for those affected by blindness or vision
2020 challenges; the Cameron Lions Club has steadfastly upheld this
2121 mission by providing vision screenings and eyeglasses to the
2222 students of Cameron Independent School District and to children
2323 in surrounding areas; and
2424 WHEREAS, The members of the Cameron Lions Club have also
2525 devoted themselves to enhancing public recreation and community
2626 beautification in Cameron, and members are donating $200,000 to
2727 the city for the redevelopment of one of the city's parks, which
2828 will be renamed in honor of the club; and
2929 WHEREAS, The Cameron Lions Club has served the community
3030 with great dedication, and over the past century, its members
3131 have helped to nurture an environment of altruism and service in
3232 the city of Cameron; it is indeed fitting that this outstanding
3333 organization receive special recognition for its exemplary work;
3434 now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3636 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend the members of
3737 the Cameron Lions Club on the club's 100th anniversary and on
3838 their many outstanding contributions to the community and extend
3939 to all best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4141 the Cameron Lions Club in honor of this special occasion.
