| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Cameron Lions Club on the grand occasion of the |

| 4 | 4 | | organization's 100th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Chartered on September 26, 1923, the Cameron |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Lions Club represents District 2-S3 for Lions Clubs |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | International, which is the world's largest service club |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | organization and includes 1.4 million members in more than 47,000 |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | clubs worldwide; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Cameron Lions Club has served |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and strengthened the city of Cameron and its residents through |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | numerous service projects and philanthropic activities and has |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | supported both the efforts of the Lions Clubs International and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | those of such local organizations as the Cameron Boy Scouts of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | America and the Cameron Chamber of Commerce; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Drawing on Helen Keller's 1925 call to be "knights |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of the blind in a crusade against darkness," Lions Clubs have |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | long been committed to promoting vision care and to providing |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | resources and support for those affected by blindness or vision |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | challenges; the Cameron Lions Club has steadfastly upheld this |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | mission by providing vision screenings and eyeglasses to the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | students of Cameron Independent School District and to children |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | in surrounding areas; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Cameron Lions Club have also |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | devoted themselves to enhancing public recreation and community |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | beautification in Cameron, and members are donating $200,000 to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the city for the redevelopment of one of the city's parks, which |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | will be renamed in honor of the club; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The Cameron Lions Club has served the community |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | with great dedication, and over the past century, its members |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | have helped to nurture an environment of altruism and service in |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the city of Cameron; it is indeed fitting that this outstanding |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | organization receive special recognition for its exemplary work; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend the members of |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | the Cameron Lions Club on the club's 100th anniversary and on |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | their many outstanding contributions to the community and extend |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | to all best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | the Cameron Lions Club in honor of this special occasion. |
