| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, South Texas College is celebrating its 30th |

| 3 | 3 | | anniversary in 2023; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Founded as South Texas Community College in |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | September 1993, STC has grown to include six campuses and two |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | higher education centers located in Hidalgo County and Starr |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | County; today, the institution benefits from the able leadership |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of its president, Dr. Ricardo J. Solis, and it serves nearly |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 50,000 credit and non-credit students from across the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Valley; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, STC currently offers more than 127 degree |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | programs and certifications, including five baccalaureate |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | degrees; in addition, the institution provides dual credit |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | courses for high school students, and it has established a number |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of professional and industry training initiatives; STC has |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | placed a special emphasis on preparing students for careers in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | health care, and it is the first college in the nation approved to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | implement a registered nurse apprenticeship program, which |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | enables students to work in nursing at local hospitals while |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | completing their studies; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For three decades, South Texas College has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | provided students with a quality education and a strong |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | foundation for achievement, and in so doing, it is making an |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | important contribution to the future of the Lone Star State; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate the 30th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | anniversary of South Texas College and extend to all those |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | associated with the institution sincere best wishes for the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | prepared for South Texas College as an expression of high regard |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | by the Texas Senate. |
