5 | 5 | | have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023; and |

6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was |

7 | 7 | | created by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 to recognize |
---|
8 | 8 | | campuses that have demonstrated superior academic performance or |
---|
9 | 9 | | made notable progress in improving outcomes among economically |
---|
10 | 10 | | disadvantaged students; one of the most prestigious honors an |
---|
11 | 11 | | elementary or secondary school in the United States can receive, |
---|
12 | 12 | | the Blue Ribbon designation was awarded to only 353 schools in |
---|
13 | 13 | | the nation and only 29 schools in Texas this year; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Falls City Elementary, which is led by principal |
---|
15 | 15 | | Jessica Luna, serves approximately 255 students in the Falls City |
---|
16 | 16 | | Independent School District, while Saenz Elementary serves |
---|
17 | 17 | | nearly 550 students in Roma ISD under the guidance of principal |
---|
18 | 18 | | Odette Garcia; part of Laredo ISD, Farias Elementary serves more |
---|
19 | 19 | | than 560 students under the leadership of Vanessa Lynn Ortegon |
---|
20 | 20 | | and Garcia ECHS serves nearly 400 students and is led by |
---|
21 | 21 | | Margarita Taboada; Falls City Elementary, Saenz Elementary, and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Garcia ECHS were nominated in the Exemplary High Performing |
---|
23 | 23 | | Schools category, and Farias Elementary was recognized in the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools category; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Through hard work and perseverance, the teachers |
---|
26 | 26 | | and students of these exceptional campuses have established a |
---|
27 | 27 | | strong record of scholastic achievement, and their outstanding |
---|
28 | 28 | | efforts have been duly recognized with the Blue Ribbon School |
---|
29 | 29 | | award; now, therefore, be it |

30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

31 | 31 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Falls City, |

32 | 32 | | Francisco Farias, and Roel A. & Celia R. Saenz Elementary |
