5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A member of the commission since 2012, Charlie |

6 | 6 | | Zahn was first elected chair in 2016; he has worked tirelessly to |

7 | 7 | | enhance the port's infrastructure, and Phase 2 of the four-phase |
---|
8 | 8 | | Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project was completed in |
---|
9 | 9 | | 2023, as the port continued to set records for growth in goods |
---|
10 | 10 | | movements; the Corpus Christi Caller-Times named him 2022 |
---|
11 | 11 | | Newsmaker of the Year to recognize his contributions to the |
---|
12 | 12 | | success of the region's primary economic engine; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Zahn is a longtime resident of Port Aransas; |
---|
14 | 14 | | dedicated to his community, he has served in many leadership |
---|
15 | 15 | | roles, including president of the Port Aransas Independent |
---|
16 | 16 | | School District Board of Trustees and chair of the Texas State |
---|
17 | 17 | | Aquarium Board of Trustees and Nueces County Board of Coastal |
---|
18 | 18 | | Parks; he has been active in the Boy Scouts of America for more |
---|
19 | 19 | | than seven decades and served the organization as both president |
---|
20 | 20 | | and chair of the South Texas Council; in addition, he has been |
---|
21 | 21 | | vice chair of the Corpus Christi Metropolitan Planning |
---|
22 | 22 | | Organization and a member of the Alliance for I-69 Texas and the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Texas Department of Transportation I-69 Advisory Committee; he |
---|
24 | 24 | | has also given of his time and expertise to such organizations as |
---|
25 | 25 | | the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Port |
---|
26 | 26 | | Aransas Charter Review Commission, Port Aransas Community |
---|
27 | 27 | | Theatre, Friends of the Ellis Memorial Library, and Coastal |
---|
28 | 28 | | Conservation Association; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Among numerous accolades, Mr. Zahn has received |
---|
30 | 30 | | the Distinguished Citizen and President's Awards from the Boy |
---|
31 | 31 | | Scouts of America and the Henry Baldwin Award from the United |
---|
32 | 32 | | Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce; he is a member of the Port |
---|
33 | 33 | | Aransas Boatmen Hall of Fame, and he was named 2005 Citizen of the |
---|
34 | 34 | | Year by the City of Port Aransas; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Zahn is a partner in the Law Offices of |
---|
36 | 36 | | Charles W. Zahn Jr. and focuses his practice on real estate and |
---|
37 | 37 | | water law; he holds a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University |
---|
38 | 38 | | and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Baylor University; in |
---|
39 | 39 | | all his endeavors, he is supported by the love and encouragement |
---|
40 | 40 | | of his wife, Linda; they take great pride in a fine family that |
---|
41 | 41 | | includes two children, three grandchildren, and a |
---|
42 | 42 | | great-grandson; and |
---|
43 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Through his vision, skill, and professionalism, |

44 | 44 | | Charlie Zahn has greatly advanced the mission of the Port of |
---|
45 | 45 | | Corpus Christi Commission, and his achievements have earned |
---|
46 | 46 | | the respect and admiration of his fellow citizens; now, |
---|
47 | 47 | | therefore, be it |

48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

49 | 49 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Charles W. Zahn |

50 | 50 | | Jr. for his service as chair of the Port of Corpus Christi |

51 | 51 | | Commission and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
