11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 48
22 WHEREAS, Charles W. Zahn Jr. is concluding his noteworthy
33 tenure as chair of the Port of Corpus Christi Commission in
44 December 2023; and
55 WHEREAS, A member of the commission since 2012, Charlie
66 Zahn was first elected chair in 2016; he has worked tirelessly to
77 enhance the port's infrastructure, and Phase 2 of the four-phase
88 Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project was completed in
99 2023, as the port continued to set records for growth in goods
1010 movements; the Corpus Christi Caller-Times named him 2022
1111 Newsmaker of the Year to recognize his contributions to the
1212 success of the region's primary economic engine; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Zahn is a longtime resident of Port Aransas;
1414 dedicated to his community, he has served in many leadership
1515 roles, including president of the Port Aransas Independent
1616 School District Board of Trustees and chair of the Texas State
1717 Aquarium Board of Trustees and Nueces County Board of Coastal
1818 Parks; he has been active in the Boy Scouts of America for more
1919 than seven decades and served the organization as both president
2020 and chair of the South Texas Council; in addition, he has been
2121 vice chair of the Corpus Christi Metropolitan Planning
2222 Organization and a member of the Alliance for I-69 Texas and the
2323 Texas Department of Transportation I-69 Advisory Committee; he
2424 has also given of his time and expertise to such organizations as
2525 the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Port
2626 Aransas Charter Review Commission, Port Aransas Community
2727 Theatre, Friends of the Ellis Memorial Library, and Coastal
2828 Conservation Association; and
2929 WHEREAS, Among numerous accolades, Mr. Zahn has received
3030 the Distinguished Citizen and President's Awards from the Boy
3131 Scouts of America and the Henry Baldwin Award from the United
3232 Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce; he is a member of the Port
3333 Aransas Boatmen Hall of Fame, and he was named 2005 Citizen of the
3434 Year by the City of Port Aransas; and
3535 WHEREAS, Mr. Zahn is a partner in the Law Offices of
3636 Charles W. Zahn Jr. and focuses his practice on real estate and
3737 water law; he holds a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University
3838 and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Baylor University; in
3939 all his endeavors, he is supported by the love and encouragement
4040 of his wife, Linda; they take great pride in a fine family that
4141 includes two children, three grandchildren, and a
4242 great-grandson; and
4343 WHEREAS, Through his vision, skill, and professionalism,
4444 Charlie Zahn has greatly advanced the mission of the Port of
4545 Corpus Christi Commission, and his achievements have earned
4646 the respect and admiration of his fellow citizens; now,
4747 therefore, be it
4848 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4949 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Charles W. Zahn
5050 Jr. for his service as chair of the Port of Corpus Christi
5151 Commission and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
5252 future; and, be it further
5353 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
5454 prepared for Mr. Zahn as an expression of high regard by the
5555 Texas Senate.
