5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew |
---|
6 | 6 | | to a close with the passing of Dr. C. Garth Cline of Panola on |
---|
7 | 7 | | August 13, 2023, at the age of 97; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Harry and Era Cline, Garth Cline was |
---|
9 | 9 | | born in Center on December 24, 1925; he graduated from Louisiana |
---|
10 | 10 | | State University and went on to obtain a doctor of veterinary |
---|
11 | 11 | | medicine degree from Auburn University; answering his nation's |
---|
12 | 12 | | call to duty, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cline practiced veterinary medicine in |
---|
14 | 14 | | Shreveport, Louisiana, for many years and concluded his |
---|
15 | 15 | | six-decade working career with the Louisiana State Racing |
---|
16 | 16 | | Commission at Louisiana Downs; following his retirement, he |
---|
17 | 17 | | eventually returned to Texas; he was an active member of Robert |
---|
18 | 18 | | A. Tompkins Masonic Lodge No. 1254 in Waskom, where he served |
---|
19 | 19 | | several terms as Worshipful Master, and he was a longtime |
---|
20 | 20 | | Worshipful Patron for the local chapter of the Order of the |
---|
21 | 21 | | Eastern Star; he was also involved in Marshall Masonic Lodge |
---|
22 | 22 | | No. 22 AF & AM; among his many achievements, he received the 32nd |
---|
23 | 23 | | degree in both York and Scottish Rites; in addition, he was |
---|
24 | 24 | | designated a Shriner with the Sharon temple in Tyler, and he |
---|
25 | 25 | | served as district deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of |
---|
26 | 26 | | Texas District 10 for two years; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A man of faith, Dr. Cline was a devoted member of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday school; during |
---|
29 | 29 | | his retirement years, he enjoyed working on his farm and spending |
---|
30 | 30 | | time with his loved ones; he was also an avid supporter of the |
---|
31 | 31 | | Jacket Nation sports teams of the Elysian Fields Independent |
---|
32 | 32 | | School District; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Garth Cline lived a caring and purposeful life |
---|
34 | 34 | | centered around his family and his community, and he will long be |
---|
35 | 35 | | remembered with deep affection by all who knew him; now, |
---|
36 | 36 | | therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
39 | 39 | | of Dr. C. Garth Cline and extend heartfelt sympathy to the |
---|
40 | 40 | | members of his family: to his children, Chuck Cline and his wife, |
---|
41 | 41 | | Debra, and Georgia Pounders and her husband, Mike; to his |
---|
42 | 42 | | grandchildren, Gary Cline and his wife, Liz, Brittany Childs and |
---|
43 | 43 | | her husband, Matt, Leslie Thurman and her husband, Brandon, and |
---|
44 | 44 | | Ashley Pounders; to his great-grandchildren; to his "adopted" |

45 | 45 | | son, Randy "RT" Mitchell and his wife, Melissa; and to his other |

46 | 46 | | relatives and many friends; and, be it further |

47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
