55 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew
66 to a close with the passing of Dr. C. Garth Cline of Panola on
77 August 13, 2023, at the age of 97; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Harry and Era Cline, Garth Cline was
99 born in Center on December 24, 1925; he graduated from Louisiana
1010 State University and went on to obtain a doctor of veterinary
1111 medicine degree from Auburn University; answering his nation's
1212 call to duty, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps; and
1313 WHEREAS, Dr. Cline practiced veterinary medicine in
1414 Shreveport, Louisiana, for many years and concluded his
1515 six-decade working career with the Louisiana State Racing
1616 Commission at Louisiana Downs; following his retirement, he
1717 eventually returned to Texas; he was an active member of Robert
1818 A. Tompkins Masonic Lodge No. 1254 in Waskom, where he served
1919 several terms as Worshipful Master, and he was a longtime
2020 Worshipful Patron for the local chapter of the Order of the
2121 Eastern Star; he was also involved in Marshall Masonic Lodge
2222 No. 22 AF & AM; among his many achievements, he received the 32nd
2323 degree in both York and Scottish Rites; in addition, he was
2424 designated a Shriner with the Sharon temple in Tyler, and he
2525 served as district deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of
2626 Texas District 10 for two years; and
2727 WHEREAS, A man of faith, Dr. Cline was a devoted member of
2828 Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday school; during
2929 his retirement years, he enjoyed working on his farm and spending
3030 time with his loved ones; he was also an avid supporter of the
3131 Jacket Nation sports teams of the Elysian Fields Independent
3232 School District; and
3333 WHEREAS, Garth Cline lived a caring and purposeful life
3434 centered around his family and his community, and he will long be
3535 remembered with deep affection by all who knew him; now,
3636 therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3838 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
3939 of Dr. C. Garth Cline and extend heartfelt sympathy to the
4040 members of his family: to his children, Chuck Cline and his wife,
4141 Debra, and Georgia Pounders and her husband, Mike; to his
4242 grandchildren, Gary Cline and his wife, Liz, Brittany Childs and
4343 her husband, Matt, Leslie Thurman and her husband, Brandon, and
4444 Ashley Pounders; to his great-grandchildren; to his "adopted"
4545 son, Randy "RT" Mitchell and his wife, Melissa; and to his other
4646 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4949 this day, it do so in memory of Dr. C. Garth Cline.
