9 | 13 | | and political science from Baylor University; a gifted scholar, |

10 | 14 | | he received his law degree from South Texas College of Law; and |

11 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Before pursuing a career as an educator, John |

12 | 16 | | served in several roles in state and federal government, |

13 | 17 | | including in service to United States Congressman W. R. "Bob" |

14 | 18 | | Poage, United States Congressman Mike Andrews, Texas Attorney |

15 | 19 | | General Jim Mattox, and McLennan County District Attorney Vic |

17 | 21 | | WHEREAS, John began his teaching career at Austin |

18 | 22 | | Community College, and drawing on knowledge gained throughout |

19 | 23 | | his experience in public service, he taught courses on Texas and |

20 | 24 | | national government for more than 30 years; and |

21 | 25 | | WHEREAS, John taught at a number of institutions of higher |

22 | 26 | | learning from the Texas Panhandle to the Texas Gulf Coast, and he |
---|
23 | 27 | | reached students across the globe through his online teaching; he |
---|
24 | 28 | | taught at Wharton County Junior College in Wharton and Sugar Land |
---|
25 | 29 | | before teaching government and political science at Houston |
---|
26 | 30 | | Community College; and |

27 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his time as a professor, John |

28 | 32 | | contributed to the intellectual formation of tens of thousands of |

29 | 33 | | community college students, and he encouraged his pupils to value |
---|
30 | 34 | | knowledge and pursue higher learning; and |
---|
31 | 35 | | WHEREAS, A beloved and respected professor and mentor, |

32 | 36 | | John has had a positive impact on countless students and |

33 | 37 | | educators through his teaching and scholarship; his wisdom and |
---|
34 | 38 | | his service to education will continue to benefit Texas scholars |
---|
35 | 39 | | and teachers, and it is indeed fitting that he receive special |

36 | 40 | | recognition on his outstanding contributions to the Lone Star |
---|
37 | 41 | | State; now, therefore, be it |
