| 12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended | |
| 14 | 14 | by adding Section 180.011 to read as follows: | |
| 15 | 15 | Sec. 180.011. VERIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE INFORMATION. (a) | |
| 16 | 16 | In this section: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) "E-verify program" has the meaning assigned by | |
| 18 | 18 | Section 673.001, Government Code. | |
| 19 | 19 | (2) "Political subdivision" means a county, | |
| 20 | 20 | municipality, school district, junior college district, other | |
| 21 | 21 | special district, or other subdivision of state government. | |
| 22 | 22 | (b) A political subdivision shall register and participate | |
| 23 | 23 | in the E-verify program to verify information of all new employees. | |
| 24 | 24 | (c) An employee of a political subdivision who is | |
| 25 | 25 | responsible for verifying information of new employees of the | |
| 26 | 26 | political subdivision as required by Subsection (b) is subject to | |
| 27 | 27 | immediate termination of employment if the employee fails to comply | |
| 28 | 28 | with that subsection. | |
| 29 | 29 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
