88 AN ACT
99 relating to campaign contribution limits for certain offices.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 253, Election Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 253.008 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 253.008. LIMITATION ON CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS. (a) A
1414 person may not knowingly make or authorize the making of a campaign
1515 contribution to a candidate for statewide office or the
1616 legislature, or to a specific-purpose committee supporting the
1717 candidate or opposing the candidate's opponent, in an amount that
1818 exceeds $5,000 for the election in which the candidate is involved.
1919 (b) A political committee may not knowingly make or
2020 authorize the making of a campaign contribution to a candidate for
2121 statewide office or the legislature, or to a specific-purpose
2222 committee supporting the candidate or opposing the candidate's
2323 opponent, in an amount that exceeds $10,000 for the election in
2424 which the candidate is involved.
2525 SECTION 2. Section 253.157(a-1), Election Code, is amended
2626 to read as follows:
2727 (a-1) A judicial candidate or officeholder may not
2828 knowingly accept political contributions from a general-purpose
2929 committee that, in the aggregate, exceed the contribution limits
3030 prescribed by this subsection in connection with an election in
3131 which the judicial candidate's name appears on the ballot. The
3232 contribution limits under this subsection are:
3333 (1) for a statewide judicial office, $10,000
3434 [$25,000]; or
3535 (2) for any other judicial office, $5,000.
3636 SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
3737 a campaign contribution made on or after the effective date of this
3838 Act. A campaign contribution made before the effective date of this
3939 Act is governed by the law in effect when the contribution was made
4040 and is not aggregated with campaign contributions made on or after
4141 that date.
4242 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
