| 9 | 9 | | relating to placement on the minimum salary schedule and service |

| 10 | 10 | | credit in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas for certain public |

| 11 | 11 | | school career or technology education teachers. |

| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 21.403(b), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (b) For each year of work experience required for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | certification in a career or technological field, up to a maximum of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | five [two] years, a certified career or technology education |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | teacher is entitled to salary step credit as if the work experience |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | were teaching experience. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | SECTION 2. Section 823.404(a), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (a) An eligible member may establish equivalent membership |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | service credit for up to a maximum of five [one or two] years of work |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | experience for which the member is entitled to salary step credit |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | under Section 21.403(b), Education Code. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | school year. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
