77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to authorization and reimbursement for certain
1010 examination fee and other required cost subsidies paid for public
1111 school teachers and students.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 29.190, Education Code,
1414 is amended to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 29.190. SUBSIDY FOR CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION AND
1616 REQUIRED COSTS.
1717 SECTION 2. Sections 29.190(a-1), (b), and (c), Education
1818 Code, are amended to read as follows:
1919 (a-1) A student may [not] receive more than one subsidy
2020 under this section.
2121 (b) A teacher is entitled to a subsidy under this section if
2222 the teacher passes a certification examination related to career
2323 and technology education [cybersecurity].
2424 (c) On approval by the commissioner, the agency shall pay
2525 each school district an amount equal to the cost paid by the
2626 district for a certification examination under this section. To
2727 obtain reimbursement for a subsidy paid under this section, a
2828 district must:
2929 (1) pay the fee for the examination and the costs
3030 related to requirements for obtaining the certification; and
3131 (2) submit to the commissioner a written application
3232 on a form prescribed by the commissioner stating the amount of the
3333 fee paid under Subdivision (1) for the certification examination
3434 and the costs related to requirements for obtaining the
3535 certification.
3636 SECTION 3. Section 48.156, Education Code, is amended to
3737 read as follows:
3838 Sec. 48.156. REIMBURSEMENT FOR CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION
3939 AND REQUIRED COSTS [REIMBURSEMENT]. A school district is entitled
4040 to reimbursement for the amount of a subsidy paid by the district
4141 for each [a student's] certification examination and the costs
4242 related to requirements for obtaining the certification under
4343 Section 29.190(a) as provided by Section 29.190(c).
4444 SECTION 4. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026
4545 school year.
4646 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4747 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4848 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4949 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
5050 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
