| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. The heading to Section 29.190, Education Code, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sec. 29.190. SUBSIDY FOR CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION AND |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | REQUIRED COSTS. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. Sections 29.190(a-1), (b), and (c), Education |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Code, are amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (a-1) A student may [not] receive more than one subsidy |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | under this section. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (b) A teacher is entitled to a subsidy under this section if |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the teacher passes a certification examination related to career |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and technology education [cybersecurity]. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (c) On approval by the commissioner, the agency shall pay |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | each school district an amount equal to the cost paid by the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | district for a certification examination under this section. To |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | obtain reimbursement for a subsidy paid under this section, a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | district must: |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (1) pay the fee for the examination and the costs |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | related to requirements for obtaining the certification; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (2) submit to the commissioner a written application |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | on a form prescribed by the commissioner stating the amount of the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | fee paid under Subdivision (1) for the certification examination |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | and the costs related to requirements for obtaining the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | certification. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 3. Section 48.156, Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Sec. 48.156. REIMBURSEMENT FOR CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | AND REQUIRED COSTS [REIMBURSEMENT]. A school district is entitled |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | to reimbursement for the amount of a subsidy paid by the district |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | for each [a student's] certification examination and the costs |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | related to requirements for obtaining the certification under |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Section 29.190(a) as provided by Section 29.190(c). |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | SECTION 4. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | school year. |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
