79 relating to a limitation on civil suits against persons reporting
810 suspicious activity in good faith.
911 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1012 SECTION 1. Title 6, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is
1113 amended by adding Chapter 128A to read as follows:
1214 CHAPTER 128A. LIMITATION ON SUITS AGAINST CERTAIN PERSONS
1315 REPORTING SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
1416 Sec. 128A.001. LIMITATION ON CIVIL ACTION. A civil action
1517 related to a report of suspicious activity of another person to an
1618 appropriate law enforcement authority may not be brought against
1719 the person who made the report if the person acted:
1820 (1) as a reasonable person would in the same or similar
1921 circumstances; and
2022 (2) with a reasonable belief that the suspicious
2123 activity constituted or was in furtherance of a crime, including an
2224 act of terrorism.
2325 SECTION 2. Section 128A.001, Civil Practice and Remedies
2426 Code, as added by this Act, applies only to a cause of action that
2527 accrues on or after the effective date of this Act.
2628 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
