10 | 10 | | whistleblower protection laws. |

11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended |
---|
13 | 13 | | to read as follows: |
---|
14 | 14 | | (a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or |
---|
15 | 15 | | terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action |
---|
16 | 16 | | against, a public employee who in good faith reports a violation of |
---|
17 | 17 | | law by the employing governmental entity, [or] another public |
---|
18 | 18 | | employee, or an elected officer of the employing governmental |
---|
19 | 19 | | entity to an appropriate law enforcement authority. |
---|
20 | 20 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
21 | 21 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
22 | 22 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
23 | 23 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
24 | 24 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
