77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the reporting of violations of law under the
1010 whistleblower protection laws.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended
1313 to read as follows:
1414 (a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or
1515 terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action
1616 against, a public employee who in good faith reports a violation of
1717 law by the employing governmental entity, [or] another public
1818 employee, or an elected officer of the employing governmental
1919 entity to an appropriate law enforcement authority.
2020 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2121 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2222 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2323 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2424 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
