88 AN ACT
99 relating to renewal of an appointment as a volunteer deputy
1010 registrar.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 13, Election Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 13.0315 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 13.0315. RENEWAL OF APPOINTMENT. (a) The registrar
1515 may, not later than November 30 of an even-numbered year, deliver
1616 notice to each volunteer deputy registrar in the county that the
1717 volunteer deputy registrar's term of appointment expires on
1818 December 31 of that year. Notice may be delivered by mail or by
1919 e-mail.
2020 (b) Notice delivered under this section must be accompanied
2121 by:
2222 (1) a renewal application, in a form determined by the
2323 registrar; and
2424 (2) information about any changes in election law that
2525 are relevant to the role of volunteer deputy registrar and that have
2626 occurred during the person's term of appointment.
2727 (c) The registrar shall immediately appoint a volunteer
2828 deputy registrar to a new term beginning on the next January 1 if
2929 the volunteer deputy registrar:
3030 (1) signs the renewal application and returns it to
3131 the registrar before the volunteer deputy registrar's term expires;
3232 (2) signs an affidavit confirming the person has read
3333 and understood any information provided under Subsection (b)(2), if
3434 applicable; and
3535 (3) remains eligible for appointment as a volunteer
3636 deputy registrar under Section 13.031(d).
3737 (d) A volunteer deputy registrar appointed to a new term
3838 under this section is not required to attend training developed
3939 under Section 13.047 unless the person has failed to comply with any
4040 requirement imposed on a volunteer deputy registrar under this
4141 subchapter or other law.
4242 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
