77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to information and data regarding the incidence of veteran
1010 deaths in this state.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 193.006, Health and Safety Code, is
1313 amended by amending Subsection (d) and adding Subsection (e) to
1414 read as follows:
1515 (d) When the death certificate of a person to which this
1616 section applies is filed with the vital statistics unit, the
1717 department [state registrar] shall submit to [notify] the Texas
1818 Veterans Commission deidentified information on the person's:
1919 (1) cause of death;
2020 (2) age;
2121 (3) race;
2222 (4) gender; and
2323 (5) occupation.
2424 (e) Not later than September 1 of each year, the Texas
2525 Veterans Commission shall prepare and submit to the standing
2626 committees of the legislature with primary jurisdiction over
2727 veterans affairs and publish on the commission's Internet website a
2828 written report that contains:
2929 (1) aggregated data based on the information the
3030 commission receives under Subsection (d) for the preceding year;
3131 (2) an evaluation of that data; and
3232 (3) any recommendations for legislative or other
3333 action.
3434 SECTION 2. Not later than September 1, 2026, the Texas
3535 Veterans Commission shall prepare and submit the initial report
3636 required by Section 193.006(e), Health and Safety Code, as added by
3737 this Act.
3838 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
