| 9 | 9 | | relating to information and data regarding the incidence of veteran |

| 10 | 10 | | deaths in this state. |

| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 193.006, Health and Safety Code, is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | amended by amending Subsection (d) and adding Subsection (e) to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (d) When the death certificate of a person to which this |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | section applies is filed with the vital statistics unit, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | department [state registrar] shall submit to [notify] the Texas |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Veterans Commission deidentified information on the person's: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (1) cause of death; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) age; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (3) race; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (4) gender; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (5) occupation. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (e) Not later than September 1 of each year, the Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Veterans Commission shall prepare and submit to the standing |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | committees of the legislature with primary jurisdiction over |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | veterans affairs and publish on the commission's Internet website a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | written report that contains: |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (1) aggregated data based on the information the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | commission receives under Subsection (d) for the preceding year; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (2) an evaluation of that data; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (3) any recommendations for legislative or other |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | action. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 2. Not later than September 1, 2026, the Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Veterans Commission shall prepare and submit the initial report |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | required by Section 193.006(e), Health and Safety Code, as added by |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | this Act. |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
