88 AN ACT
99 relating to salary or wage deductions for classroom teachers
1010 employed by public schools.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 22.001, Education Code,
1313 is amended to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 22.001. SALARY DEDUCTIONS FOR PROFESSIONAL DUES;
1515 CERTAIN SALARY DEDUCTIONS PROHIBITED.
1616 SECTION 2. Section 22.001, Education Code, is amended by
1717 amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (d) to read as
1818 follows:
1919 (a) Except as provided by Subsection (d), a [A] school
2020 district employee is entitled to have an amount deducted from the
2121 employee's salary for membership fees or dues to a professional
2222 organization. The employee must:
2323 (1) file with the district a signed written request
2424 identifying the organization and specifying the number of pay
2525 periods per year the deductions are to be made; and
2626 (2) inform the district of the total amount of the fees
2727 and dues for each year or have the organization notify the district
2828 of the amount.
2929 (d) A school district may not deduct or withhold, or
3030 contract to deduct or withhold, from a classroom teacher's salary
3131 or wages payment of membership fees or dues to a labor organization
3232 or other similar entity, including a trade union, labor union,
3333 employees' association, or professional organization.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
